Fox: I saw Everything Everywhere All At Once a few times in the theater. It made me cry. I realized though, it wasn't the emotional parts of the film that brought me to tears, it was the ennui of lost potential. It was the dream of being able to tap into the self that never came to be. i would never claim i don't appreciate certain body-types over others, or deny that some people's bodies just turn me on!
i'm not even slightly ashamed of this.
...but i also have what i've for many years called "a wide range of perfect".

...i think it's a matter of terminology. having worked in various aspects of the health/healing field; and also having my own personal relationship with a body in pain 100% of the time, a "good" body has nothing to do with appearance.

I would agree. What about a the bodies influence on a good mind? Avatar 1:33am
Fox:

↳ coelacanth∅ @1:25

Yeah, it's difficult because I am used to ignoring my body, so it helps to have mental symptoms to gauge so I can keep track of how my illness is manifesting.

And I get side effects. If they exist, I'll probably get em. It muddies the already murky water of my health.

She's got daily fevers of over 100, is fed only through IV... and she's a fucking BRICK HOUSE. Girl's got GUNS. Her body, aside from the colostomy bag and IV port, is aesthetic perfection. damn . . . -i mean, i'm used to ignoring *the regular, daily* pain too; but i think my problems are possibly able to be cured if i could only have what some people would call super-human discipline.
(i don't know, no doctor has ever been able to tell me what's going on. but i think i know some things that'd help)

2 nights ago my niece told me how she got a "deep" blister gardening. it broke and her mother said pour alcohol in it. she said it was the worst pain she'd ever felt.
...and i'm thinking "that's a level of pain i routinely dismiss and go about my day".
...i imagine you could say at least as much; and so makes me sad.
i know your pain is intense, probably well-beyond what i've got, and i feel for you, and hope relief comes soon. (and not by way of death.)

true, and even from a technical, measurable, perspective our bodies do not end at our skin. our energy fields are measurable several feet beyond what we generally see, and think is the extent of what we feel.

But the brain is part of the body.

I find inspiration in Clive Wearing. He was a brilliant musician, had a freak fever, almost died, ended up with a 30 second memory, like Memento.

At first, he was in a perpetual panic. Constantly freaking out and "waking up" again and again.

But years passed with him in that state. And even though he still can't remember anything new, even though he can't really function in life, even though he lives in a constant untethered state.... he's grown to live with it.

He just... floats with it. Somehow, even though he can't make new memories, he psychologically learned to accept his fate and live.

It's funny, I had my lung punctured (twice actually), and I just popped half a pain killer and got on with my night. I went out to a show, went to a bar after, crashed with a friend, ran some errands, went food shopping, and only went to the hospital because a disabled online friend had me concerned about a blood clot.

My lung was mostly collapsed. Evidently it's supposed to be really painful? It's not much different than my normal back pain.

It's only when stuff like that happens that I realize my tare is set to insanity.

I mean, I used to be really sharp. I was a genius kid til Lyme Disease started around age 12. I went through a sudden spike in my freshman year of college. Got depressed. Got panic attacks. OCD kept me from leaving the dorm unless I matched right. Got lost on roads I used to know. Stopped being able to remember my right from my left. Dropped out of college. Went crosseyed. Started shoplifting. Neuropathy started to ravage.

I remember the feeling of trying to read the New York Times, trying to get through A Brief History of Time. I couldn't do it.

I never before had any limits to what my brain could figure out. I spent my 20's in a panicked rage, thinking I was going insane. Met by silence while my drawing hand grew clumsy, in electric numb pain. Feeling like Flowers for Algernon crossed with Whose Life is it Anyway. Got a brain fluid leak in my 30's and spent 8 years in near perpetual brain crushing headache.

Now I have diagnoses. Now I know it's real. It took decades of doctors and family's disbelief.

I can't make or keep plans. I can't remember most things. Most of my favorite things are a struggle.

So now... now I just clutch at every tiny joy.

Now I float.
