↳ Asheville Jon @8:56
This is a song tonight, for sure!↳ Imaginos @8:59
Nice to see you in the Digital Salon, again! Hopefully you enjoy our stories tonight↳ Austin Rich @9:00
I always do↳ Austin Rich @9:00
Rexall is still around, but in the days when a Drug Store was more than it is now, Rexall had a large chain of stores, that sponsored a lot of radio. When Richard Diamond got a Rexall Sponsor, you knew the show was doing well.↳ Tenacious Crow @9:01
That's the way to do it, Tenacious Crow! Well done.↳ Song: ""The Edna Wolfe Case"" by "Richard Diamond, Priva...
This is such a typical farce setup...↳ Webhamster Henry @9:03
Webhamster Henry! Yes, getting a woman to walk in and hire you about a cheating husband might be the most generic case premise in Detective fiction.↳ Tenacious Crow @9:06
I feel the same way. I like to listen to old radio shows, but listening with a crew is always more fun.↳ Austin Rich @9:10
Short sheeting back then?↳ Imaginos @9:11
I'm sure short-sheeting is as old as beds.It makes him even more endearing.
↳ Imaginos @9:14
It did sort of sound like it!↳ Imaginos @9:14
I have heard that "Transfusion" Carcrash SFX in a lot of shows. I think it was part of a radio SFX package."Honey, I'm with the police force."
That's not a good answer, either!
↳ asheville jon @9:23
Hell yeah!↳ Imaginos @9:22
Maybe in the novelization. But not on radio in 1950.↳ asheville jon @9:25
And the full band makes more sense.Looks like we had a stream interruption! Sorry again!
↳ asheville jon @9:26
I'll post a full version later! Com-Crash, strikes again! 9:27pm↳ Webhamster Henry @9:25
Yeah, that horn was great. 9:27pm↳ Song: ""The World of a Bishop"" by "The Adventures of Ro...
Two things of note up front:1.) The music is different? Yes. This is an AFRS broadcast version, as the standard broadcast version was not archived properly. There are a few music cues and other indicators that are different than your average Rocky Jordan episode.
↳ Imaginos @9:28
Interesting. I wonder what's up with that. 9:30pm↳ Song: ""The World of a Bishop"" by "The Adventures of Ro...
2.) Second item: this has some of the worse sound of any Rocky Jordan episode I've heard. Hopefully you can still follow the story, but the show sounds very rough, no matter what I did to help improve it.↳ asheville jon @9:30
Yeah, I didn't recognize it at first. Interesting.↳ Imaginos @9:32
Nice! I have promised myself I won't by any more comics or graphic novels, as I have too many I haven't read yet already.↳ Austin Rich @9:33
Even if it’s made in the French style with high quality paper and based on the Imaginos saga with QR codes linking to private music videos↳ Imaginos @9:36
Well, I DO want that comic, of course. But... well... maybe I can sell some books or something...↳ Imaginos @9:38
I'm not sure I have what he's looking for, but... he and I should talk comics someday.↳ Imaginos @9:40
Sleep well.↳ Austin Rich @9:41
Thanks↳ Song: ""The World of a Bishop"" by "The Adventures of Ro...
Another item of note about this episode:3.) No Delmonte ads. This AFRS version has no ad breaks, and doesn't seem to be sponsored, like the usual episode of Rocky Jordan.
↳ Arvo Zylo @9:47
Arvo! Always nice to see you in the Digital Salon.Arvo will be hosting our MVM show tomorrow!
↳ Austin Rich @9:47
I wouldn't harp on this, except this episode features a gender misunderstanding, and a character that dresses as both a man and a woman. Seems relevant to the status of Rocky's sexuality.↳ Austin Rich @9:48
I noticed that too! I rather "hip" version!?↳ Austin Rich @9:47
You are so right. Very little interest in women...↳ Webhamster Henry @10:00
Yes!↳ Webhamster Henry @10:09
I do like Inner Sanctum. I should consider adding those to the run later.↳ Maulydaft @10:08
It's been a long, strange trip! But fear not. I'll probably re-listen to them again, someday.↳ asheville jon @10:10
I will remember to play that one!↳ Webhamster Henry @10:12
Ooooo! I am a sucker for Bradbury in general, as I recall loving a story collection of his as a lad.↳ Maulydaft @10:05
Absolutely! I find the character that I relate to and give them a whole backstory, even if I'm fairly sure that wasn't intended. Fan-fic sort of carved out a space for people to feel seen in big media, and I sort of love that.↳ Maulydaft @10:13
Yeah, I'm not too into that one, either.Maybe we should vote for what we DON'T want to hear?
↳ asheville jon @10:13
The Stuff! Right! I forgot about the thing with the stuff. 10:15pm↳ Maulydaft @10:13
On the subject of Evil Dolls: are there good Evil Doll stories? I'm trying to remember one I was a fan of...↳ Webhamster Henry @10:20
Oh dear! I should listen to that.↳ Austin Rich @10:16
Tilight Zone: "Hi! My name is Talky Tina!" June Foray was also the voice of Chatty Cathy (the real doll being pastiched there)↳ Webhamster Henry @10:21
Oh, yeah. I don't mind that one.See, we found one!
↳ Webhamster Henry @10:21
But I think my love of Twilight Zone goes a long way toward forgiving most episodes, even the not as good ones.↳ Austin Rich @10:23
I kind of like the Black Mirror one: "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" .↳ Webhamster Henry @10:26
I have not seen as much Black Mirror, but it is totally the successor to that kind of fiction, and is meeting the moment better than some Sci-Fi. I have a hard time recommending Black Mirror to everyone, as there are some VERY dark episodes - the first one, included. But I think that first episode sort of weeds out people who might have thought it was going to be "fun" Sci-Fi.↳ Austin Rich @10:28
I watched the first season and really liked it. But yes... some REALLY DARK stuff... the politician one... I don't even want to say more... eep. I think it was ones like that that probably kept us from seeking out season two. They all got you thinking... but some were much more upsetting than others!↳ Maulydaft @10:31
Agreed. I should catch back up with that show, as I think I saw the first two seasons... and tapped out around there. (It was just SO dark at times, I needed some Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to balance it out.)↳ Maulydaft @10:33
That is one of my favorites, too. I should TOTALLY re-run that one.↳ Webhamster Henry @10:34
LOL↳ Webhamster Henry @10:34
In 1949, every house had one, right? X-Ray-ing this, and X-Ray-ing that. Wasn't there a song about it? "Don't Go Kissing 'Round The X-Ray Machine, With Anyone Else But Me..."↳ Austin Rich @10:35
The X-Ray machine is near the ice cube maker.↳ Austin Rich @10:35
So wild...↳ Webhamster Henry @10:36
"THE HOME... OF THE FUTURE..."↳ Song: ""Point of Departure"" by "X-Minus One"
www.gutenberg.org...↳ David Shortell @10:40
David Shortell! Thank you for finding this link.↳ Austin Rich @10:40
It adds a visual component - as well as seeing what the cuts and adaptations area!↳ Song: ""Point of Departure"" by "X-Minus One"
Very timely! Sputnik's launch was on 4 October 1957↳ Austin Rich @10:48
The Herculaneum scrolls were recently in the news: too fargile to be unrolled, they were tomographically scanned and unrolled in software. There's a documentary on this!↳ Webhamster Henry @10:51
Oh, damn! That's very cool. I should see that doc! I'm a sucker for a well-made documentary...Even better if Errol Morris made it.
↳ Webhamster Henry @10:12
Of those listed in that link, “And So Died Riabouchinska” and “Marionettes, Inc.” were adapted for Alfred Hitchcock Presents (so were four other Ray Bradbury stories).↳ David Shortell @10:57
Maybe that was the story that convinced him Bradbury doesn't really work.↳ Austin Rich @10:58
That was a robot grandma story....↳ Webhamster Henry @10:59
I thought so, but I wasn't 100% sure.此内容由惯性聚合(RSS阅读器)自动聚合整理,仅供阅读参考。 原文来自 — 版权归原作者所有。
