A Nanaimo bar is a classic, no-bake Canadian dessert from Nanaimo, British Columbia, featuring three distinct layers: a chocolate, coconut, and graham cracker crumb base; a creamy, buttery custard filling; and a rich chocolate ganache topping. It's known for being very sweet and is often served in small squares, paired with coffee or tea.

May West is a round dessert cake with creme filling. It was created in Canada, and continues to be particularly popular in the province of Quebec. It is currently made by Vachon Inc., a division of Canada Bread. It was originally called a "Mae West", after the eponymous movie star, but the spelling was changed in the 1980s.
The original crème filling was custard, but was replaced by a shortening-based vanilla creme close in taste and texture to the filling found in Twinkies.'

i like the package art!

ledzeppelinsucks: Rolling Stones played King County Stadium October 15 1981, the show started at 3PM resulting in thousands skipping school
and work including me. The brand new Nancy Reagan led suburban fascists and recent hippies and disco ducks were outraged. One of the results was no concert in a City or County owned venue in Seattle could start before 7PM. From then on concert start times were 7:01PM on the tickets.

Listener Bop Monroe: Candy and Suzanne Nelson were daughters of a minister in Port Richmond, New York and developed their singing in his church They and their friend Jeanette Johnson decided to form a girl group like so many teen girls of that day. Producer Jerry Ross had been in Philadelphia with Kenny Gamble and while at a record hop they saw some kids doing a new dance they called The 81 to a Martha and the Vandellas' song, "In My Lonely Room." The duo immediately made a sound-a-like dance tune called the The 81 and had Candy and the girls recorded it for release. Soon the single, peaked just outside the Top 50 on the charts.

I was in Port Alberni last summer for a couple of days. It's really a very nice place...but remains bear country somewhat...
They have one very classic old skool drive in that does a great cheeseburger & fries daily special..."no substitutions"!
Of course, as a town they unfortunately are in the line of tsunami danger whenever a big one strikes Alaska or pretty well all down the coast. So that's a genuine hazard to living there. 1964 being a really bad one.

Separate entrances for men vs ladies w/escorts were still somewhat of a thing for decades in B.C....and most of those "establishments" (that are still around) never removed those vintage signs from outside.

True pubs/tap rooms/beer parlours are unfortunately mostly a thing of the past in our city...especially when many folk in current times prefer indoor screen pursuits over get outdoors & meet-up w/ others...like we did more in the past.

Rents & overheads are also so high...so unfortunately not very many places can await the supposed turnaround towards the younger folks changing their ways to bring in that much needed foot traffic.
