I see some great fonts/lettering in graffiti--more now than ever

The grafitti aesthetic is quite serious.
Creating a tag and making it pop there are many design facets to consider.

Can you post the link to Parched?!

Would you consider redesigning the NY Knicks logo with overlap fonts ?

Wikipedia uses FLICK as an example.

as a guy that grew up in NYC in the 70s, I really didn't like graffiti but as I aged I came to appreciate the art

Before all the tech happened everything was on paper or walls.
So typically a writer would carry a black book with him. That is basically a sketch book with a hard cover. The book would have the genesis of your grafitti pieces in B&W and more fully developed color work.
Then you took the book and loaned it to other artists and they would do a piece in your book. Many times you would switch books for a few days and return them to the owner with your piece in it.
By the time we all graduated the best artists had full books - each piece in color and up to date.
Some excellent typography in those pages, all hand drawn and designed by individual artists.
It was a time.

Almost like GNAR - but a fun story on its own. An article on how Choc proliferated all over the place

freaking Zackery .... bring the law into fonts

Hey Jackie & Kel! Gnar is cool, I prefer the bubbly shapes in "Socko" I relate strongly to a lot of what you guys are discussing. Kel, I co-founded an art space/collective (Called Raining Chainsaws) across the bay in SF, we have lots of events! Would love for you to check it out.

Both are correct usage.
Write a tag or tagging up a train - both work fine.

Ha! It's a question that must be addressed.
And I never said I was going to narc anyone out.
I was trying to make it as successful for the young artists.

Ha! I know.
That can be read as if I was really agitated. It is to be read in a dry delivery and without any emotion.
The humor will come across.

maybe Bucci needs a new font on his page

Call me Debbie Downer but I know a guy whose son fell from an old railroad bridge (where he was working on graffiti) right onto a busy street. He didn't get run over but he was seriously injured

Damn. I'm so sorry.
Not a downer. That's reality. Thank you for sharing.
How long ago was this? How is his son today? Doing any better? Paralyzed?

Hi Zachara, it was about a year ago and his son was already on the mend but I'm not really in touch with him so I don't know about since but it seemed like he was gonna be okay.

Wow. Glad to hear he is on the mend. I cannot imagine that moment as a parent. Fits the criteria of why this day than any other day for theatre.
If you still know him and are willing, I would give him a quick call. Say you were thinking of his son.
:
One of the main train lines in Chicago runs along a freight train track for a long distance and you see a lot of bridges and tunnels and trains with graffiti

Thank you Jackie. Thank you Kel.
Great show. Wonderful interview. Thoughtful calls.

Check out what they do at Beyond The Streets in LA. Great street art collection and shows, books etc.

One time I went to some kind of event for a BK graffiti artist and I asked some of the other ones there if they had every gone to Queens to check out the graffiti there and they didn't seem to wanna hear about graffiti in Queens
