and in proper formal Russian the 'o' is an 'ah', but sometimes only the first one. i've forgotten so much in the last 35 years since i studied it.
I was so shocked by the o being an "ah." I learned this when I was talking with a guy at my favorite Russian media store in Brighton beach about the movie Leto and the band Zoopark
as my Ukrainian plumber told me years ago, "you speak really good Russian for someone who doesn't understand it." i credit my professor, i suppose. lol
By any chance, will you be featuring any tracks off that one album Paul McCartney recorded exclusively for the label in 1986?

A2B, welcome! I don't have that album and it has taken me until just this moment to even realize that was a thing! And I was a huge Beatles fan as a kid in the 70s & 80s

Julia (of Tom & Julia):
In terms of [O] vs [Ʌ] in Russian pronunciation — it is purely Muscovite to sound O as [Ʌ] when unstressed. So Kino is Kin[O] not [Ʌ] as O is stressed.
8:27pm
Julia (of Tom & Julia):
In terms of KinO vs KinɅ, there is a cult reference.
The movie Gentlemen of Fate (a really good one)... Government looking for a treasure employing a nursery school teacher (lookalike of a mafia boss) to find the said treasure with his accomplices. When at some point the plot goes sidewise an uneducated accomplice says:"Vce, kina ne budet." I.E. — "That's it, the show is over."

8:57pm
Julia (of Tom & Julia):
I am not a music expert in any way. It's that Kino, BG, Nautilus, Assa, Brat, some of Alla happened to my 20's (you know — good times)... Gradsky, too, but I was not mature enough to appreciate him fully... Such "interesting times..." relieving now... Thank you
I have a DVD somewhere of old footage of BG, Victor, and some others at what seems like a rather large stadium (?) concert, but not sure what year it's from. I got it in Brighton Beach 10 years ago or so
9:31pm
Julia (of Tom & Julia):
Also look up the movie "June 31st" — you might find interesting things there. It has been put on the shelf because Godunov defected right after it was shot.
And Alla's New Years' shows have interesting things, too.
