I'm going to be particualrly clueless tonight: about all I know about Brian Eno is that in that picture he's got a Teisco of a vintage I've had some indirect luck with. So, I look forward to being enlightened.
Zero to four, just depends on the week. More often pre-pandemic, but I was a principal in a working band at that point. Now I'm most a guest star in other people's stuff.
He actualyl passed during the pandemic, although nothing related to covid—just natural causes. However, because of lockdown only his wife and I were actually there.
I have seen the band One Foot In The Grave a long time ago. Their drummer was 78. The benjamin of the band was the singer. She was 55. Haha! She was younger than I am now.

I put two Easter eggs in today's show because it amused me to do so ;-)
Well, darn, now I have to take that off the band names list. ;) The band was the drummer's show: he retired once, got bored, threw together a bar band with some expats, and eventually found me at a boot sale and realised I could play better than their current guitarist. Plus I had tits. So, you know, out with the old in with the new.
I'm sure I don't know what this song is about. Lol

Hi DJGG, Clubbers! Know/have the early Eno solo albums, looking forward to the show! (can't believe how many posts are up already, I'm a late arriver...)
Learned a lot from him, he was basically telepathic on stage. Plus, he kind of invented the Musician Feud. We couldn't ever play any Deep Purple because of an ongoing dispute with Ritchie Blackmore dating to 1964. He also had a long-running feud with Ringo; upon his second retirement, Ringo actually fessed up.

Hello Georgy! Hello everyone! Happy Birthday to Mr. Eno! FYI- The Criterion Channel is going to have the Eno documentary available for streaming in June! The 2024 documentary- which should be interesting since there are many different versions of it!
Hey PK! Good and busy! I just got back on Monday evening late from a 12-day road trip to Louisiana! Went to Jazz Fest, my niece's high school graduation the weekend after and saw friends in Lafayette on the way home!

Just today I discovered a horror film with a sound track by Eno. The Devil's Men (1976) also called Land of the Minotaur. I listened to the opening theme but did not watch the rest because YouTube blured out the nudity.
I don’t have that many good memories from the place up north where I grew up (lovely nature but mostly awful people) but the local library was an integral part of my musical education. At regular intervals, records that were not listened to and/or borrowed by the customers were sold for the equivalent of 50p. I got this album that way. Always grateful for the moments spent there listening to records that changed my life, and those cheaply acquired deleted items as well that are still in my record collection.
4:22pm
The Barman:
Love that message that Bowie sent to Eno before he died: "thanks for all the years of friendship." Eno didn't twig at first that it was a goodbye.
I think all the proo dungeonsynth tracks would come from the UK. Jim Kirkwood and New Order's Elegia... I guess the two exceptions would be Tangerine Dream and the Nazgul

Absinthe for me too. Good for the nerves.
The Absinthe Drinker by Arthur Symons
GENTLY I wave the visible world away.
Far off, I hear a roar, afar yet near,
Far off and strange, a voice is in my ear,
And is the voice my own? the words I say
Fall strangely, like a dream, across the day;
And the dim sunshine is a dream. How clear,
New as the world to lovers' eyes, appear
The men and women passing on their way!
The world is very fair. The hours are all
Linked in a dance of mere forgetfulness.
I am at peace with God and man. O glide,
Sands of the hour-glass that I count not, fall
Serenely: scarce I feel your soft caress.
Rocked on this dreamy and indifferent tide.
It sounds almost glam! I don't know of it myself. Half the ingredients are unfamiliar to me

Hey there GeorgyGirl! i'm off to work and only got a minute but Thank you!
Happy birthday Brian Peter George St. Jean-Baptiste de la Salle Eno!
If I am not mistaken I think Eno recycled this track by slowing it down, removing the vocals and other mixing tricks. On Music for films or other one of his more instrumental oriented albums

TBH I’ve been disappointed in absinthe. It was the LSD of its day, but I never experienced any intoxicated enlightenment from drinking it. I’m more interested in the poetry and art associated with it (like the Symons poem) Come to think of it LSD was also a disappointment. Again I’m more interested in the art and music it inspired than the substance itself.
It is an acquired taste. Made a drink for one friend, took one sip, then handed it back to me, and said "Ugh, no, you finish it." Some folk don't like that licorice-y flavour.
I was incorrect. Wiki: "Absinthe has often been portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug and hallucinogen, which gave birth to the term absinthism. The chemical compound thujone, which is present in the spirit in trace amounts, was blamed for its alleged harmful effects. By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the United States and much of Europe, including France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria-Hungary, though it has not been demonstrated to be any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Recent studies have shown that absinthe's psychoactive properties, apart from those attributable to its alcohol content, have been exaggerated."
That still fascinates me! The amount of tech that must have gone into that :-)

I meditate every day. I was amazingly lucky to discover a Zen Meditation center (Zendo) here in Jersey City, NJ (perhaps the least Zen-like city in the USA).
My neighbours once thought I was Dutch for a while (despite my lack of height and ginger hair) because I had "accented English" and she once found a hopje wrapper that had fallen out of my car
I misread this and was confused what Dylan was doing to your heart.

I just remembered another key moment of Eno and slow tape speed - the key element of the first track on Music for Airports is Robert Wyatt playing the piano… slowed down and cut into several simultaneously playing loops.
(Should you ever have another show with long tracks, Eno is a goldmine. Music for Airports, Discreet Music, No Pussyfooting, Evening Star… plenty of tape speed manipulation, tape loops and long tracks on those!)
I did a High Waisted Modernists a few years back and that included the more ambient side of Eno :-)

Song:
"The Secret Life Of Arabia" by "David Bowie"
I've somehow managed to have never heard this original before. I knew the B.E.F. cover with Billy Mackenzie. Longtime Eno fan, very much enjoying the show!
As it happens, I have accepted the good news of the Bass VI and similar six string bass guitars as my personal savior, but I also do love me some upright bass.
I was chatting with the lifeguard at the pool last week and telling him that I was going home to record. And so he asked what I did, and when I said "Radio DJ" I heard a very loud and impressed "OOOOOOOO!" from everyone behind me in the pool. Lol
5:15pm
Stanley:
24 August 1972 was a turning point for young Stanley. It was the debut of Roxy on TOTP and the shock of Art School Glam and especially Eno's outfit and synth equipment, blew the poor boy's mind.
Oh! I have not seen The Railway Children, at least not the whole thing. On the Finnish TV late 1980s, but I don’t remember anything else about it - I do have it on my Digital Hoarding Library/Dump; should I watch it or am I too old for watching that for the first time?
I first played upright bass subbing in a pit orchestra: the actual bassist had taken ill, and they asked if anyone could handle the upright and bass guitar during rehearsal. I raised my hand, and that was literally the first time I tried it. Instant bond: they're great.
I didn't have any problem with it (and have played it semi-extensively since.) I wouldn't put myself forward as a virtuso, but I can handle straightforward symphonic and rockabilly stuff (although I would want to get my hands in shape for rockabilly, even with nylon strings).
And this song always reminds me of the movie Christiane F
(who in real life dated a certain young man from Einsturzende Neubauten and made music with him, OK, probably all of you know these old news already)
I read that 20-year-old Sally Thomsett was older than Jenny Agutter; but because Sally's so much smaller, Jenny was cast as the eldest sibling and Sally played the 11-year-old!

Re Harold & Maude: The best older woman / younger man movie I know of is All That Heaven Allows (1955) directed by Douglas Sirk. Jane Wyman (Ronald Reagan’s first wife) plays a well off widow who falls for working class landscaper Rock Hudson. Sirk was one of the best Hollywood directors of the time and he makes it work. You can find it on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/all.-that.-heaven.-allows.-1955
Kevin Ayers? OK! Just before the renovation began I played my vinyls by going through discographies (if incomplete, I often don’t have all items from an artist) and I did really enjoy that experience with Kevin Ayers. His one time rival John Cale was a bit harder one to enjoy at times, I mean listening to Helen of Troy in a hangover was not pleasant

Song:
"Needles In The Camel's Eye" by "Brian Eno"
Coming back to the screen also to say I LOVE THIS TRACK SO MUCH!!!! It has always felt like a prelude to Bowie's later period and New Zealand Flying Nun Records Indie Rock to me. Just my impression.
5:39pm
red_door_what_for in ypsilanti:
Needles In The Camels Eye would sound incredible in the style of Spiritualized. I find it so funny that Eno was basically like "it's a pop song about nothing" and listeners project their own meaning. ✨✨✨ that still means a lot imo!

Obama recently mentioned on his interview with Stephen Colbert that the first concert he went to was Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. Second concert was Stevie Wonder's Innervisions tour. Those must have been stellar tours.

I would hear those Eno solos as a kid and think THIS is how the synth should be played. Take advantage of its unique properties. it's not just a souped-up organ.

Honski de Boiski Cha Cha:
I have been researching Brian Jones on an “amateur online”level and I have begun to wonder would he have evolved into an Eno like figure had he lived. He somehow was like that already, not exactly a virtuoso on any instrument but could get interesting stuff out of various instruments, wrote film music etc
5:47pm

If you’re interested in Gore Vidal (I’m not) be sure to watch the documentary Best of Enemies about his TV debates with William F. Buckley during the 1968 USA presidential election. It’s on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI5YnE6hTOo&t=2045s
I forgot to mention earlier, I actually didn't really care for the clarinet at first. It just seemed like a "dated" instrument, but I grew to like it over time. I had wanted to play a brass instrument originally. Never got around to trying one though.
Yes he did not seem like a pleasant person but neither did The Jagger:Richards team at least in how they were treating him, again not that he was blameless…
In the right hands, clarinets are wonderful. That definitely means "not my hands." But I do a couple shows every year playing big band and jump blues dueling/dueting with a firey clarinet/sax player, and the instrument can absolutely hold its own.

Learned a lot from him, he was basically telepathic on stage. Plus, he kind of invented the Musician Feud. We couldn't ever play any Deep Purple because of an ongoing dispute with Ritchie Blackmore dating to 1964. I don’t have that many good memories from the place up north where I grew up (lovely nature but mostly awful people) but the local library was an integral part of my musical education. At regular intervals, records that were not listened to and/or borrowed by the customers were sold for the equivalent of 50p. I got this album that way. Always grateful for the moments spent there listening to records that changed my life, and those cheaply acquired deleted items as well that are still in my record collection.Jay Current:

The Absinthe Drinker by Arthur Symons
GENTLY I wave the visible world away.
Far off, I hear a roar, afar yet near,
Far off and strange, a voice is in my ear,
And is the voice my own? the words I say
Fall strangely, like a dream, across the day;
And the dim sunshine is a dream. How clear,
New as the world to lovers' eyes, appear
The men and women passing on their way!
The world is very fair. The hours are all
Linked in a dance of mere forgetfulness.
I am at peace with God and man. O glide,
Sands of the hour-glass that I count not, fall
Serenely: scarce I feel your soft caress.
Rocked on this dreamy and indifferent tide.

Recent studies have shown that absinthe's psychoactive properties, apart from those attributable to its alcohol content, have been exaggerated."Gregosaurus:
