Y  Duplicate   Favoriting Enter EP  Hideous Mink Records  2026  Y return to the setlist this week because they are THAT EXCITING OF A BAND. This release is all killer and zerooooo filler. For fans of Party Dozen, and scary saxophones. London outfit Y release their EP ENTER on 8 May via SO Recordings (Enter Shikari, Deadletter, Big Special) & Hideous Mink Records (Alien Chicks, Opus Kink). Formed by Adam Brennan and Sophie Coppin during a period of isolation, a way of making sense of boredom, frustration and noise, the group have quickly grown into something louder, sharper and harder to ignore. Discussing the EP, Y shared: “Recorded at Farm Road Studios in Brighton with Jake Smallwood, ‘ENTER’ is our second EP and a darker, more ambitious step forward. Across five tracks, each song explores its own distinct style while coming together as a more cohesive whole than our debut. After road-testing the material live for so long, we entered the studio knowing exactly how we wanted each part to hit, building every track up from strong live performances between drums, bass and guitar as a solid foundation to capture our live energy before expanding the tracks with any sax, synths or vocals.” The beginning of opener ‘Duplicate’ is unexpected – its genteel cinematic start a little out of sync with this band’s vibe. However the teasing is short lived as the saxophone and bassline kick in. The pulsating beats take over and along with the blend of twangy guitars and Adam’s vocals, which fluctuate between an effortless breathiness and one bursting with energy, the party has started. ‘Duplicate’ epitomises Y, polished as well as gloriously chaotic all in one track. Their unpredictability is thrilling.  *   0:02:23 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Dirty Vistas  Corridors   Favoriting Corridors Single  Self Released  2026  Dirty Vistas is a trio consisting of Jan van Oudheusden (drums), Tim Ewalts (guitar/bass guitar) and Sjeng Muermans (vocals, keys), born in the summer of 2023 out of love for all things dirty, raw, and broken. Bossy bass lines, dirty grooves, and unfiltered prose. Danceable yet open-ended and unresolved. Dirty Vistas brings something vulgar and rattling, bursting at the seams. Their first EP ‘Popular Music of Yesteryear’ (released on VIAVIA Records, spring 2025), establishes a clear sound while also showcasing diversity. The EP reflects their philosophy of not overthinking and instead focusing on having fun. In the fall of 2025, they plan to release their second EP. The first album is scheduled for Q1 2026. All music is homemade and fully self-produced....we have not gotten to that release but if it is as good as this first single. WHOA...fucking love this twitchy mass of music. So, so good!  *   0:06:16 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Alien Chicks  5/4   Favoriting 5/4 Single  Alcopop!  2026  "In their jolting, shapeshifting mania, Alien Chicks are crafting their own take on what punk music could be today. At gigs, lyrics are screamed, drum kits are smashed and moshes explode faithfully, but with this long-established musical formula, the band take the liberty to warp it with ridiculous ambition. ‘Say Fish’ closes their new EP ‘Forbidden Fruit’ and is one of the band’s collective favourites to play live, doubtless for its overstimulating barrage of musical (and amusical) sections that range from an exposed vocal-and-guitar intro to a breakdown of whirling emergency siren-style noise, with catchy hooks fleetingly taking shape in between. ‘5/4’ is another favourite to perform, “because it’s hard, I like the challenge”, singer and guitarist Josef Lindsay explains. In the wake of black midi’s ascendancy, there has been a growing vogue for London bands to challenge their moshing adherents with continuous shifts in pace and time signature and having similarly grown from doing hard yards at the Windmill, Alien Chicks have plenty of experience figuring out just how to do that." - Hard of Hearing  *   0:08:57 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Bugswallow  Dirt Belly   Favoriting demos  dirtbellyrecordings  2024  Somewhere in the middle of Calgary’s country tradition and punk underground lies bugswallow — a supergroup of steel slidin', cattle rustlin’ scene vets wielding drooling banjos with a whole lot of attitude. bugswallow's specific Southern Alberta flavour of weirdo egg-y twang punk will leave you parched and begging for more.    0:12:06 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Koala Disco  Frakken Zonder Mouwen   Favoriting Single  UhmYeahSure Records  2026  "High-energy psych-punk with a Belgian twist" Koala Disco is a five-piece band that refuses to fit into a single mold. Drawing from a deep well of influences, they weave together the energy of post-punk, the oddball charm of 80s new wave, and the wild experimentalism of progressive rock. Their music channels the likes of Talking Heads, DEVO, and The B-52’s, while incorporating the boundary-pushing mentality of Frank Zappa and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Despite their genre-bending tendencies, one thing remains constant: Koala Disco thrives on unpredictability. Their sound is high-energy, explosive, and unafraid to take risks. On stage, they push their songs to the limit—what begins as structured post-punk can spiral into psych-infused chaos. It’s this intensity that has earned them a reputation as an uncompromising live act and secured them spots on major stages. This song makes me feel good and like kicking things. Frakken zonder mouwen" translates directly to sleeveless coats or sleeveless jackets, by the way.  *   0:13:42 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Bowl  Options, Variables, Shapes...   Favoriting Sweet Caffeine  Ballentent Records  2023  The Netherlands has long been home to a thriving underground music scene where punk in all its forms continues to evolve. Fueled by a strong DIY ethos and a dedication to pushing creative boundaries, Dutch punk exists in a space that embraces both raw aggression and artistic experimentation. Whether it’s in intimate basement venues or on larger club stages, the energy remains the same: urgent, unfiltered, and deeply connected to the community that sustains it. Bowl is an Utrecht based Post-Punk band that combines gritty Garage rock and disorienting Post-Punk with influences from New- Wave and Art-Rock. The band was formed in 2022. Since starting this five headed band consisting of frontman Vos Ploeg, guitarists Jorah Peterse and Pascal Mosterd, bassist Otje Suijker and drummer Laurens Klep have cemented themselves into the Dutch music scene.    0:15:27 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Congratulations  I Feel Severe   Favoriting Join Hands  Bella Union  2026  Much to my frustration, the evergreen music journalist’s cliché of calling a band ‘genre-ambiguous’ or referring to them as polymaths is entirely warranted in their case, but thankfully, the frustration stops at the lack of vocabulary available to describe such a chaotically vibrant album. Rather than there being a stylistic tug of war between members leading to arguments over whether to dive further into their own respective comfort zones, with various members worshipping at the altars of heavy metal, surf rock and wonky electro-pop respectively, instead they choose to leap between styles as though every genre they touch is on the verge of going out of fashion. It doesn’t really matter that one song loses all sense of its identity halfway through as it hiccups its way from emulating the soulful extravagance of Prince into a sequence of squelchy bleeps that sound as though they were lifted from a forgotten Sega Megadrive game, because this clusterfuck of ideas is executed in a way that simply exudes fun. Some people might consider the outlandishness and its refusal to stay still the biggest drawback of the record, but it isn’t. That’s a silly take to have about an album where silliness is engineered to be a prevailing force. Lighten up for Christ’s sake and launch those inhibitions out the window; it’s time for us to Join Hands and revel in the joys of Congratulations’ chimerical pop creations. - Far Out Magazine UK  *   0:19:23 (MP3 | Pop-up)
The Look People  Cosmic Fishing   Favoriting Crazy Eggs  Linus Entertainment  1993  When I was hanging out on the scene as a baby and encountered the Look People, I admit that their music...and they themselves confounded and terrified the shit out of me. Now I appreciate them for the absolute madness and no wave chaos they delivered with prog jazz fusion perfection. They are one of Canada's most underrated bands, each one of them a monster musician. And be forewarned I will be playing more in weeks to come.    0:22:46 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Metdog  Ben UFO at Sub Club   Favoriting One For The Kids  Metdog  2025  Naarm/Melbourne synth-punks Metdog have established themselves as giants of the local scene since 2017 with their angular-punk sound featuring slinky guitars, blippy synths, samples and tight rhythms all given heft by Metdogs witty lyrical style delivered with untempered frankness. Metdog channels the energy of garage/rock classics The Saints, ACDC and The Stooges, delivering it in a package as intriguing as sonic innovators like Devo, Talking Heads or Gary Numan.    0:26:51 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Martin Bisi  Dancing On The Power Lines   Favoriting Dancing On The Power Lines  (Bandcamp)  2026  Track released today May 28 in advance of the July 10, 2026 forthcoming full-length. "Martin Bisi is an original No Wave, early Hip-hop and Experimental producer and engineer from NYC who helped realize records by Brian Eno (On Land), Sonic Youth, Swans, Herbie Hancock (Rockit), Lydia Lunch, John Zorn, Afrika Bambaataa, The Dresden Dolls. Unsane, Cop Shoot Cop, Boredoms, JG Thirlwell, Laura Ortman, Helmet, White Zombie and many others" .......... On this album: Martin Bisi - voice, guitar, synth //// Oliver Rivera Drew - drums, percussion //// Diego Ferri - bass, baritone guitar, el percussion //// Joan Hacker - voice //// Lyrics: Nora Almeida, Martin Bisi, Joan Hacker ................ Mastered by Fred Kevorkian. ---------------- "Martin Bisi was born in 1961 to Argentinian parents and grew up in Manhattan. His mother was a concert pianist who specialized in Liszt and Chopin and toured extensively, and his father played tango-style piano as a hobby. As a child in the 1960s his parents sent him to a French school, gave him music lessons, and took him to performances by the New York Philharmonic and the opera, all of which he rebelled against. ................. In 1981, he started B.C. Studio (initially named OAO, Operation All Out, Studio) with Bill Laswell and Brian Eno in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, where he recorded much of the No Wave, avant garde, and hip-hop of the early 1980s including Lydia Lunch, Live Skull, Fred Frith and Afrika Bambaataa. In 1982, he recorded the instruments for the first song Whitney Houston recorded as a lead singer, "Memories" off of Material's One Down LP. ........... Soon after recording Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", Bisi split from Bill Laswell but continued working from BC Studio till present time, with a specialty in loud, dense, often noisy sound, with a focus on local NYC music such as White Hills (band), Clone, Cinema Cinema and Weeping Icon. .... In 2021, he worked with the Hypnagogia album of Travis Duo. ................ Documentary film: in 2014, Sound & Chaos: The Story Of BC Studio was released, directed by Sara Leavitt and Ryan Douglass. It followed Bisi's path via the recording space itself, and the music scene and changing urban landscape around it. .................. Bisi also recorded his own material" https://martin-bisi.bandcamp.com/  *   0:38:51 (MP3 | Pop-up)

The full-length releases May 28, 2026 .............. "Life is a Laugh, the 3rd LP from distraction4ever, is about meeting the world with a sense of humour, not to ignore pain or anger but to find a better way to live through them. Under the synth-punk album lies a reflection on the absurdity of existence. An invitation to lean into the chaos, simply because it can feel better that way." https://distraction4ever.bandcamp.com/"  *   0:43:39 (MP3 | Pop-up)
The Scaners  Abyssal Love   Favoriting The Scaners 0  No Place In Space  2026  From Lyon, France. This song released May 22, 2026 ahead of a forthcoming album. -------- "After three albums - The Scaners I, II, III - here comes 0 (zero). ------- A piece apart, almost clandestine: an assembly of fragments long scaterred. B-sides from sold-out 7" records, tracks hidden on compilations, alternate versions, never-released demos, one cover... and two exclusive tracks that open a new breach. ---------- The Scaners 0 is a secret cartography, etched in rotation. Alien Nosejob  Live Like The Crowd   Favoriting How A Mosquito Operates  Iron Lung  2026  How A Mosquito Operates is out 6/26 on Iron Lung. ---- On May 22, First preview of forthcoming album... "Alien Nosejob Announce New Album How A Mosquito Operates: "For their next trick, the prolific Australian punk act Alien Nosejob are taking on hardcore. How A Mosquito Operates, dropping about a month from now, finds Jake Robertson (formerly of the Ausmuteants, School Damage, etc.) trying his hand at hardcore punk, forgoing his usual conceptual trappings in favor of a looser genre tribute. He says it's the result of "just whatever was giving me the shits on the day of writing." Cited inspirations include Adrenaline OD, early MDC, and Neos. ---------- Lead single "Live Like The Crowd" feels like a pure expression of the genre, accented with some nifty lead guitar work but mostly straightforward in its bombardment. The sentiment feels extremely attuned to the traditional hardcore perspective: "It's easy to be like the crowd/ It's easy to live in the crowd." Watch Sean McAnulty's claymation video: ALIEN NOSEJOB - "Live Like The Crowd" [official video]"  *   0:47:55 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Sweeping Promises  Shooting Shadows   Favoriting You Say I Romanticize  Sub Pop  2026  Released May 20. Sweeping Promises are from Lawrence, Kansas. "Sweeping Promises’ introduction to the global punk underground was their debut album, Hunger for a Way Out, one of the breakout successes in music during 2020’s pandemic lockdown. In 2023, they followed up with the acclaimed Good Living Is Coming for You, which made Album of the Year lists for Pitchfork, NPR, Paste, and BBC, just to name a few. The album found guitarist/producer Caufield Schnug and bassist/vocalist Lira Mondal testing the limits of their home-recording resourcefulness as freshly minted Kansans – new place, new space. Now, the band is back with a frenetic new offering: You Say I Romanticize. ------------ Recorded over an 18-month period, largely prepared and periodically interrupted by Schnug’s non-SP production work, You Say I Romanticize is a tribute to the chaos of creation and collaboration under shifting circumstances. For years now, Schnug and Mondal have embedded themselves in their combination tour house and recording studio in Kansas, annually working on dozens of albums from other bands, hosting tour stops, planning shows, and the like. After an immersive process of tracking and whittling down YSIR demos and carving out an idiosyncratic chamber recording method for the album’s intentional wall-of-sound, the duo brought in touring drummer Spenser Gralla to play the songs like the band would on stage. --------------- The album’s frenzied execution, akin to the group’s renowned live show, prevails most of all in Mondal’s vocals. Whereas previously, you might have heard a growl here and there on certain Sweeping Promises tracks, the band’s formidable singer shouts, roars, hits all sorts of tricky notes, and shreds her throat all over the record, notably on the pummeling opener “Shooting Shadows” and the smoldering “Cocoon.”" https://sweepingpromises.bandcamp.com/  *   0:49:32 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Fifth Column  Schröeder, Ye! Ye!   Favoriting All Time Queen Of The World  Hide  1990  "Fifth Column was a Canadian all-female post-punk band from Toronto, which formed in 1980 and broke up in 1995. --------------- The band began as a trio named Second Unit, with GB Jones on drums, Kathleen Pirrie Adams on bass, and Janet Martin on guitar. Caroline Azar saw this group play in the fall of 1980, and shortly after successfully auditioned as singer, and this lineup played their first gig as Fifth Column in late 1980. ------------ The band took the name Fifth Column from their interpretation of an alleged military manoeuvre by fascist Francisco Franco during the Spanish Civil War, in which Nazi-aligned nationalist insurrectionists within besieged Republican Madrid, called the Fifth column, aided the four columns (north, south, east and west) outside the city's perimeters. ------------ Soon after forming, the group became involved in the Cassette culture of the 1980s. Their first release was a selection of songs on the cassette compilation Urban Scorch released by Some Product in 1981. GB Jones, Caroline Azar and Candy Parker released an underground xerox art/social commentary zine named Hide, of which they published five issues. After its first issue, they came out with audio cassettes that were compilations of music by their punk, post-punk and experimental contemporaries, like Anti-Scrunti Faction, The Dave Howard Singers, Mydolls, The Party's Over, Really Red, Rongwrong, and Michael Phillip Wojewoda, as well as Fifth Column. It is important to note that mainstream local media/middle-of-the-road maligners of the group, were a mix of music reporters/columnists who were both female and male, uncomfortable with the sound and performance, not considered palatable at the time. The trend behind the attacks were based on the band's approach to their genderific sketch of themselves as Second Wave feminists, disrupting populist ideas of being, songwriting, language and image. The commercial and careerist alternative scenes made of hetero-normative and gay assimilationists were also most threatened. The few Canadians in the media championing were: Radio Hosts/Journalists; CKLN's Denise Benson, The Eye's Chris O'Connor, The Sun's John Sakamoto, The Globe and Mail's Liam Lacey, CBC Brave New Wave's hosts Brent Banbury and Kevin Komoda. The Fifth Column sound forged on Vinyl, would not be, without the deftness of Producers/Engineers: Peter D. Hudson (Dundrells), Walter Sobczak (Sturm Group), MP Wojewoda and the elusive Jack Freimanis. The aforementioned actualized the sound that Jones and Azar were aiming for. There were no female producers available or interested at that innate time in Toronto history and culture. There were many girls close to the group who were inspiring friends/muses, and many of them appeared in the music video "Donna", like Jena Von Brucker, Mic Hell, Norma Jean LeFebvre and Ottilie Mason. --------------- Their first vinyl release was the 7" Boy-Girl EP produced in 1983 by Voicepondence Records. ----------------- The name of their first full-length recording To Sir With Hate was a play on the theme song from the British school film, To Sir With Love, performed by Lulu. Produced by Michael Phillip Wojewoda, it is now considered a classic of Canadian music; at the 2016 Polaris Music Prize it was named a shortlisted nominee in the 1976-1985 category for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, the 2017 Polaris Music Prize, and the 2018 Polaris Music Prize. ------------------- A song from this LP, "The Fairview Mall Story" was based on true events concerning media publication of the names of men arrested after being entrapped by police and was instrumental in paving the way for the emergence of the queercore scene. Their video for the song, directed by indie feature film director Steven Rumbelow, involved 50's images of men cruising in their new cars, shopping malls, and car crashes, was intercut with the band and go-go dancer Bruce La Bruce. A video for the song "Where Are they Now?" was also made, directed by Marc de Guerre. ------------------ Their live shows often included films played overtop of the band and a 'go-go' boy dancing. They were frequently accompanied by guest musicians who played instruments as varied as saxophone, trumpet, flute, or violin. ------------- Independent-minded, they released their recordings, including their second full-length recording All-Time Queen Of The World, themselves. A video for the song "Like This" from the album was directed by Bruce LaBruce with the band. The band also appeared on a number of compilations. -------------- Their last full-length recording, 36C, was released in 1994. That same year a video for the song Donna was also released. It was the flipside of the 1992 single and was also on the album. -------------- The band broke up in early 1995, playing their final show in Ottawa. Jones has said the band were frustrated that she was too busy with a gallery in New York and many other projects. This led to Azar quitting after a missed an opportunity to tour the UK. ------------ The band's last recording was released in 2002, on the Kill Rock Stars compilation, Fields And Streams. ---------------- Caroline Azar again teamed up with G.B. Jones to create the installation/performance The Bruised Garden in 2013 at The Theatre Centre in Toronto, Ontario, which included music composed by the pair and credited to Fifth Column, making this their last song written together."    0:52:18 (MP3 | Pop-up)

A Certain Ratio  Lucinda (EM)   Favoriting Single  Mute  2026  A Certain Ratio has announced a new 2026 project, The Joy of Sextet, featuring a fresh mix of "Lucinda" by Andy Meecham (The Emperor Machine). The track, titled "Lucinda (EM)," acts as a re-imagining of the original Sextet album track, with vinyl and CD releases scheduled for August 28, 2026. Sextet is the third studio album by the English post-punk band A Certain Ratio, released in January 1982 by Factory Records. It is the first album by the band not to be produced by Martin Hannett, due to the band wishing for a new sound. Sounds's David McCullough gave Sextet five stars and praised its timelessness: "Sextet is an album of the present, killing the present and agreeably ignoring the future. The Quietus called it "a visionary musical statement" and "arguably their greatest moment [...] Not since PIL's dominant Metal Box had a band so seamlessly traversed such an unexpectedly broad musical landscape."Stylus Magazine called the album "a masterpiece [...] a mesmerizing blend of ethnic rhythms and ghostly production that really sounds like nothing else."  *   1:07:47 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Net  Terminals   Favoriting Terminals  Clerestory  2020  Net is a four-piece space wave band from Oklahoma City. Formed in 2017, Net’s lineup—John Baber, Andy Escobar, Tommy McKenzie, and Kyle Vasquez—includes members, collaborators, and alumni of experimental rock bands Ester Drang, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, and the Chainsaw Kittens, to name only a few.
The band established a trademark sound on 2018 debut “Memory Swipe,” the recording and live shows both channeling the innovation of Talking Heads, the pulsing blasé of “The Idiot”-era Iggy Pop, and the hooky electronica of Gary Numan. Regional touring followed, including shows supporting Closeness (members of the Faint, Azure Ray) and the Flaming Lips.
Net’s followup album, Terminals, will be released August 7, 2020 on Oklahoma City label Clerestory AV. The new album was written and tracked collaboratively and features an expansive, melodic wrangling of all four members’ musical tastes and writing styles. Net recorded “Terminals” at the notorious Pink Floor Studio in Oklahoma City with producer Dennis Coyne (Stardeath and White Dwarfs, Flaming Lips, Kesha, Miley Cyrus) at the helm. A fine and sprawling song indeed...    1:11:44 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Bathing Suits  I Can Be A Freak   Favoriting KILL Bathing Suits  Underplay Recordings  2026  A self described "teen pop sensation" band fronted by a person who looks very Targarian. They are from Leeds. It can be said with no hesitation that Bathing Suits are (IMO) the most exciting band in Leeds. In a local scene saturated with post-punk and a thriving local electronic community, Bathing Suits have taken ingredients of each and made their own sonic dish – and it’s best served hot. “‘I Can Be A Freak’ came to me fast. It’s an energetic, noisy song about being downright nasty and weird (the meaning reinvents itself constantly). I wrote it using synthesisers for the melodies and sampling Freak by Estelle (love her and love that song) before bringing it to the band and developing it together. After playing this song together for monthsss we brang it to the studio with the best DJ and producer ever DJ Subaru who produced our previous single. #keepitfreaky.”  *   1:16:35 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Really Good Time  Do It   Favoriting Affirmations  Twin Music Inc  2026  Dublin-based rockers Really Good Time have announced that they will be releasing their debut album. It is called Affirmations and will be out on August 7. The announcement marks a significant new chapter for the band, who have spent the past few years establishing themselves as one of the most vital and combustible acts on either side of the Irish Sea. The trio enter this next phase sharpened, louder, and with their most fully realised work to date. More than a collection of songs, Affirmations is a record that sits with the temptation to disengage – from the news, from other people, from the relentless grind – and refuses to give in to it. Speaking about it, frontman Wastefellow says: “‘Do It’ is a song about impossible tasks. It’s about trying to do everything you have been told to do in life, and never achieving what was promised. The goalposts have shifted, no, that isn’t how you do it. “Are you angry? Are you ashamed? Go and roll that stone up the hill again.”  *   1:19:56 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Genesis Owusu  STAMPEDE   Favoriting Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge  OURNESS  2026  Genesis Owusu (Kofi Owusu-Ansah) is a critically acclaimed Ghanaian-Australian rapper, singer, and songwriter based in Canberra, known for blending funk, rap, and alternative rock. Rising to prominence with his 2021 debut Smiling with No Teeth—which won four ARIA Awards—Owusu is celebrated for his energetic live performances and profound, genre-defying music. He is the younger brother of fellow hip hop rapper Citizen Kay. This album SLAPS. It's woke, danceable fun!  *   1:22:40 (MP3 | Pop-up)
GANS  In TIme   Favoriting Good For The Soul  Strap Originals  2025  Birmingham, U.K. duo GANS roll heavy with a raucous mix of indie dance, synth pop, and punk. Debuting in 2023 with the self-released EP SO FAR, the duo inked a deal with Peter Doherty's Strap Originals for their 2025 full-length debut GOOD FOR THE SOUL. "We’ve been given the opportunity to sit down and do whatever we want. Our songs before were a bit heavier, but for this album we needed to remind ourselves that we *are* songwriters. Lyrically we’re all about kindness and what’s good for the soul. The things we say to each other, we wanted to preach that message...We both feel very deeply as human beings, you know, and I think there’s been periods in our lives where we’ve felt so deeply, it’s really affected the way we feel and our mental health and it’s hard being a human for us all right now. I think we all feel like it’s a very strange and difficult time, you know, like there’s a disconnection and insecurity and world conflicts and helplessness. The whole point of GANS is to address these points, but it’s also an escapism."    1:25:44 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Shelf Lives  60K   Favoriting HypernormaL  Not Sorry Mom Records  2026  How do you feel real when culture wants you to curate and perform and optimize? The way Shelf Lives do it is to be loud and unfiltered – and to destroy some speakers along the way. Everything the Canadian-British duo do is blown-out and maximalist, equally suited to rage rooms as it is warehouses or basements with sticky floors. Scream with them, dance with them, unleash what you have to – all they ask is that you don’t make yourself small. Shimmying in the gaps between punky scuzz and electronic fuzz, Shelf Lives zip from song to song and feeling to feeling with a near-relentless level of intensity. The thumping, pattering 2phoneS is a wild joyride of an opener, evoking the disorientating feeling of tumbling through an overstimulating life of ‘Sucking corporate dick for a bank account’ where ‘Every podcast is your best friend’. LOOOOOOOOOOVE!    1:29:04 (MP3 | Pop-up)
LEMONSUCKR  Stain   Favoriting Life Is A Heist  ALTER Music LLC  2026  Brighton four-piece Lemonsuckr have shared “Stain,” the latest single from their forthcoming EP Life Is A Heist, due out via ALTER Music. Listen below. The band have been making serious noise on the UK live circuit, building a devoted fanbase through relentless gigging and word-of-mouth buzz. “Stain” is a dense, visceral track rooted in family breakdown and estrangement. The band describe it as being about “a family fractured. The question of what it means to be ostracised, what it takes to erase someone completely and the inevitable consequences of a broken home.”  *   1:31:36 (MP3 | Pop-up)

BC Camplight  It Never Rains In Manchester   Favoriting The Last Rotation Of Earth  Bella Union  2023  The Fall's 50th anniversary will be celebrated with a special festival at Band on the Wall, Manchester, from June 5th to June 7th, 2026. This event will include a full weekend of activities such as walks, talks, live music, film, exhibitions, and more, exploring the band's influence and legacy over the past five decades. The lineup will feature familiar faces and fresh insights, making it a must-attend for fans and music enthusiasts. BC Camplight will be one of the guests, fronting a band of Fall members playing through the band's extensive catalogue. ---------- Here's a song from his own project about Manchester. "Brian Christinzio returns under his BC Camplight alias for a sixth studio album, The Last Rotation of Earth. In keeping with the patently apocalyptic title, Christinzio takes the listener on yet another tour of the idiosyncrasies of his mind with a focus on the darker side of life. For Christinzio, conventional musical practice is never an option, and hence, he never fails to grip the audience with complex themes, juxtaposing tones and immersive textures. ------------ After a lengthy struggle with mental health issues and a related grapple with drug and alcohol addiction, the New Jersey-born musician relocated to Manchester, England, in 2012. Following the advice of a fan on social media, Christinzio hoped life on the opposite side of the Atlantic could breathe new winds into his sail following two critically favoured yet underselling albums. ---------------- BC Camplight signed to Bella Union in 2014 and enjoyed greater exposure over three subsequent LPs with the label. Christinzio, like his music, remains under the shadow of his former darkness, but The Last Rotation Of Earth shows a man welcoming melancholy and finding strength in his weaknesses. ------------- Christinzio said The Last Rotation Of Earth “is a document created in the shadow of incredible darkness. One from which the creator hadn’t planned on escaping and still doesn’t. Hence the title of the album. It is the result of an illness that I’ve battled my whole life. It isn’t something that the world has done to me. It’s the world I live in, and it’s no one’s fault.” ------------ The album introduces the playfully apocalyptic tone with its bold and vibrant title track. The piano-driven instrumentals are notably positive but juxtaposed by Christinzio’s characteristically dour vocal tone and wry comedy in the lyrics. -------- "I don’t want to say how shitty everything is over a 38-minute record. I’m still capable of being funny and alive.” ------------------ Indeed, Christinzio deftly sews the gulf betwixt comedy and tragedy in this new album. This playoff is reflected most clearly in the titular sarcasm of ‘It Never Rains In Manchester’, a beautiful track punctuated by orchestral excursions amid keyboard and guitar solos. Towards the close, a crescendo of dark clouds and stormy weather looms as Christinzio sings, “Look at this, it’s raining/Should we call a meteorologist or something?”"    1:46:00 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Picastro  Whore Luck   Favoriting Older Lover  Polyvinyl Record Company  2007  Liz Hysen of Picastro will be joining us in a couple of weeks! This is her cover of The Fall's "An Older Lover Etc." ------ I might be somewhat responsible for this in that I put together a tribute to The Fall sometime around 2001 with a whole bunch of bands at the El Mocambo, and this is the song Picastro chose to cover. Imagine my surprise to find a unique re-visioning of it to end their 2007 third album "Whore Luck". I can guarantee you that their are few, if any, Fall covers that inhabit this particular space. ---------- Vocals, Piano, Slide Whistle - Liz Hysen //// Vocals, Electronics, Guitar, Synthesizer, Violin – Nick Storring.    1:50:48 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Poppycock  Magic Mothers   Favoriting Lizardman  Tiny Global Recordings  2024  "Poppycock was formed in 2012 by Una Baines (The Fall / The Blue Orchids / The Fates) who has been described as a ‘New Wave Pioneer’ and ‘Unassuming heroine of the Manchester music scene’. Working from Una’s substantial back-catalogue of songs, Poppycock began initially as a floating collective of musicians. Poppycock’s signature sound has been described as ‘Cockypop’ featuring quirky lyrics and seasoned musicianship – Lizard Man for example, was written after a dream Una had about The Fall and is a tribute to Mark E Smith. Poppycock’s ethos of collectivism and creativity often results in a cross over between art and music." ---------------------- "Any reasonably knowledgeable fan of post-punk will likely recognise the name of Una Baines. A founder of both The Fall and Blue Orchids, Una's influence in the development of both bands is a matter of historical fact . . . so much so that people scarcely realise how few recordings she's actually made - a solitary 7" with The Fall, one LP and a few singles by Blue Orchids, and that's it, barring her most recent recording, The Fates' obscure album "Furia", released nearly forty years ago on a tiny label until its rediscovery a few years back on the Finders Keepers label. Una's spent much of the last four decades working in community organising, raising a family, and functioning as a symbolic godmother to many Mancunian artists and musicians who cite her as an aspiration and mentor. Her band Poppycock has undergone several line-up changes between their sporadic - almost exclusively local - live appearances. Una was never shy in describing her personal ideals and artistic expression in terms of feminism - even if the term was occasionally derided by some female punk artists. "Magic Mothers" displays a consistency of vision rare traceable back to interviews she did during The Fall. Hearing it, we're reminded of the emotional fierceness set against pop arrangements from acts like Look Blue Go Purple and Dead Famous People, or the spare pop jazziness found in songs by Marine Girls, Tracey Thorn's pre-fame combo. The arrival of "Magic Mothers" will come as a surprise to many. Though recorded in fits and starts over the last fifteen years, it's a cohesive statement with an expansive cast of friends and allies, including Blue Orchids' Howard Jones and The Fall / House Of All's Simon Wolstencroft, plus many others. The original keyboardist for both The Fall and Blue Orchids, Una Baines return[ed in 2024] with her brilliant musical partners for her first album in 39 years!"    1:56:16 (MP3 | Pop-up)
HOUSE Of ALL  Ours Is The Fall   Favoriting Inklings  Tiny Global Recordings  2026  Released Friday March 20. Louder Than War's ALBUM OF THE WEEK that week!... "Post-Fall giants House Of All return with their fourth album in four years. Inklings builds on the band’s singular mythology while delivering some gripping music. Robert Plummer follows the valiant heart. ................. House Of All are not the first outfit formed of ex-Fall members, but with four studio albums and other side releases under their belts, they are certainly the longest-lived. Inklings is their most ambitious project yet, with forays into space-rock, downer-rock and other sub-genres. So is this when Martin Bramah and his trusty colleagues start to escape Mark E Smith’s immense gravitational pull and emerge as a band in their own right? ................ Well, there’s one immense spanner in the works there: track eight is entitled Ours Is The Fall, to which one can only reply that the clue is in the name. Clearly the band are not ready to cut the umbilical cord to the mothership just yet. Even so, it’s their entrance, their own creation, and every successive release takes them further on their chosen path. ........................................ [Amongst the songs] ...More classic rock, repurposed for our age, with Time Is Out Of Joint, wherein the band stir up a thoroughly Hawkwindian brainstorm: “a very palpable hit,” as Bramah puts it. ............... As time marches on, House Of All have become a hydra-headed beast. Latest publicity photos show seven musicians, including drummers Paul Hanley, Simon Wolstencroft and Karl Burns, plus guitarists Peter Greenway and Phil Lewis, as well as bassist Steve Hanley. That’s two more members than they had at the start, but their sound is as lean and hungry (see, those Shakespeare quotations are catching) as ever. ................. No mithering here – at this stage in the game, the experimental may have become conventional, but The Fall’s old hit-and-miss highs and lows have been replaced with a diamond-hard consistency. In place of that band’s famously scrappy-looking album art, the series of derelict buildings featured on House of All’s record covers provide a coherent visual identity. And whereas The Fall could often be utterly shambolic live, House Of All’s “solid work ethic” guarantees a great night out every time. .......................... Still, sinister thrills are always just around the corner: there’s always the hint of an otherworldly realm where modern indie musicians strike pacts with age-old supernatural forces, Robert Johnson-style. After all, “tarry a little” isn’t just a line in The Merchant of Venice. It’s also a phrase used by Goethe, part of the contract signed by Faust when he is selling his soul to Mephistopheles. ...................... So is this the best House Of All album so far? It’s certainly their best album since the last one, with the bonus of a covers EP, Foundlings, for early Bandcamp buyers. This is a band occupying a hallowed place in the musical firmament that no-one else has a chance of attaining. And if you haven’t started listening to them yet, it’s high time you caught up." ........................... https://houseofall.bandcamp.com/  *   2:00:45 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Imperial Wax  Civilised Descent   Favoriting Tranquilliser  Imperial Wax  2024  From their second album --- "Imperial Wax are a British alternative rock band, formed in 2018 by guitarist Pete Greenway, bassist Dave Spurr and drummer Keiron Melling, all had previously played together in the final line-up of the long-established post-punk group, The Fall. After the death of the Fall's vocalist and band-leader Mark E. Smith, the trio recruited vocalist and guitarist Sam Curran to form Imperial Wax. The band describe themselves as, "noise rock & garage brawlers unafraid of a psych workout or a rockabilly dust-up." ................ Greenway, Spurr and Melling had been the instrumental core of the Fall's line-up for over a decade when Mark E. Smith died in January 2018. After Smith's death, the trio played their first live gig as the backing band to former Can vocalist Damo Suzuki in Salford in May of the same year. They were then joined by Curran, formerly of Leeds-based punk band Black Pudding, naming themselves after the first Fall album that they had worked on together, 2008's Imperial Wax Solvent. Erotic Secrets of Pompeii  Crowstepper   Favoriting Single  Self Released  2026  🗡🗡🗡 APOCALYPTIC LOUNGE MUSIC Erotic Secrets of Pompeii play wild, weird apocalyptic lounge music - a twisted amalgamation of angular art rock and transgressive post-punk, transmitted directly from the heart of the forbidden zone. ESOP's music is populated by grotesque imagery and vivid symbolism, drawing from artists across different mediums, such as Terry Gilliam, Salvador Dali, Leonora Carrington, Francis Bacon, William Blake, Robert Anton Wilson and Leigh Bowery. King Ropes  Albertson's Parking Lot   Favoriting Single  David Hollier  2026  Based in Montana, the band is carving out a sound for itself that reflects modern life in The American West — evoking the bewildering complexity and contradictions, the massive expanses, mythology and realities, mind blowing beauty and heartbreaking hardships. Boom and Bust. The Mountain West. The American West. So, it’s fitting that King Ropes’ music is full of open spaces and jagged edges. Guitars scrape and whine. Amps rumble. Rickety pianos rattle in and out of tune. Like the West, nothing is too refined. At the center of it all is Dave Hollier, a gifted songwriter at the top of his game; with his odd quivering voice, surveying a land that’s a solar system unto itself, an impossible collection of distances and dreams.  *   2:39:35 (MP3 | Pop-up)
American Cream Band  Don't Burn The House Down   Favoriting Single  Quindi Records  2026  Started as a solo improvised drone/noise project over 15 years ago, Minneapolis’ American Cream Band has transformed into an 8-member musical juggernaut with a consistent cast of misfits...Led by the tent-revivalist preacher/cult leader Nathan Nelson, the band alchemically blends the jagged grooves of The B-52s with the '80s disco punk vigor of James Chance & The Contortions into something that is more than nostalgia; it's an artistic endeavor that beckons you to move, to let the music become the brushstroke in the painting of your own existence. Larger and larger crowds of frenzied freaks flock to the Twin Cities’ dingiest dives with each performance, responding to the band’s rhythm as ritual approach to their live sound. Like a beacon that calls for a response, American Cream asks you to hold out your hand - the thrill is in whether they hold it or bite it. This kinda served me some Talking Heads meets Lizzy Mercer Decloux vibes and that is gooooood.  *   2:42:34 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Doss  BIGFELLAFUNK   Favoriting Single  Alcopop!  2026  DOSS (often stylized as @doss.c_nt) is a Glasgow-based electronic post-punk duo known for their abrasive sound, sharp Glaswegian lyricism, and intense, high-energy live performances. Pan Amsterdam, The 1FS  Vanilla Ice   Favoriting Single  Def Presse  2026  Pan Amsterdam is a musical enigma wrapped in an enduring riddle. His creator is a jazz musician from Houston who’s found fame working with Detroit punk rock God, Iggy Pop, and British indie royalty, Metronomy, and now makes shapeshifting, adventurous hip hop out of the music’s spiritual home, New York. He’s an irreverent character born out of frustration and named after a misunderstanding, yet one who’s on the verge of releasing his fourth album of truth-slaying, genre-crossing rhymes and beats. So, who is Pan Amsterdam? Everything you want him to be. And more besides. “I think like an improvisor,” the man behind Pan Amsterdam, the effervescent Leron Thomas, explains in a howl of laughter. “That’s how my albums pretty much move. It’s improvisation. Even now just me talking on tangents.” Thomas is right; Pan Amsterdam has evolved out of myriad states of invention. Some practical, some thrust upon him and others just insanely creative detours undertaken because that’s the true role of an innovator.  *   2:52:12 (MP3 | Pop-up)
