Yes, there are paved over trolleys tracks all over Brooklyn. One of the cruelest ironies of Brooklyn losing the Dodgers to LA is that they were of course originally the "Trolley Dodgers," and there are practically no trolleys left in LA—even worse, there used to be a great trolley system there as well.↳ Ken From Hyde Park @9:56

Wow. This is a trip.↳ Chris from Brooklyn @10:13
"Motorbikes ebikes scooters et al. have free rein on sidewalks."That is a misrepresentation straight out of the NY Post. The road system is endlessly rededicated only to cars even as more and more people's livelihoods depend on moving consumer goods around the city at high speeds in order not to be frozen out of work by "algorithms": we have clashing economic imperatives and entrenched privilege and the NYPD's response is to criminalize delivery workers (feeding them into the deportation machine). The chaos and violence out there are caused by cars, not bikes. I think something like .4 percent of pedestrian crash injuries are caused by bikes, but the NYPD targets bike riders over drivers almost exclusively.

I dunno, Handy: motorized bikes and scooters are a real danger on sidewalks, and of course, there have recently been a few devastating accidents involving e-bikes and e-scooters on bridges and in bike lanes. But of course you're right about cars, and the NY Times just published a piece about the growing popularity of vehicles that are so high off the ground that their drivers can't see pedestrians or cyclists. Honestly: I love riding my bike, but I'm loathe to do it on roadways these days and stick to riding in Liberty State Park (and of course, riding in the park is no guarantee of safety, as in the case of my son's accident, which was caused by a clueless cyclist). I'm getting really psyched for some Art SlurmfunkelThe Route and the Adventure
Art Garfunkel walked over several years, often in segments of around 100 miles, always starting again from his home in Manhattan. He describes:
“I have walked one-eighth of the northern hemisphere. The walk began in the ’80s, from coast to coast, along back roads, small towns, and fascinating landscapes. Sometimes I was alone, sometimes accompanied by my wife, my brother, or friends like Jimmy Webb.”
— Art Garfunkel
His goal was to experience America authentically – not as a tourist, but as a walker who feels the soul of the country.
