Doug Schulkind: Gambrell:

Origin:
The term is derived from Old North French gamberel, related to jambe (leg), describing its resemblance to a bent animal limb.

Surname:
Gambrell is also a surname, historically acting as a nickname, possibly for someone with bent or bad legs.

Amen. I wrote this on Facebook two weeks ago: My wife and I went to a Thursday morning SF Symphony open rehearsal for Mahler's 6th. Normally at these sessions the conductor barely acknowledges the audience, but this time - with a hundred union musicians on stage in peril of going into overtime - Tilson Thomas turned around and gave the audience a generous talk about the material in the 6th symphony, even leading the audience in a singalong of "The Happy Wanderer"! It was an astonishing experience.
