I'm just grateful to have charged my DVD player to be abnle to play my cdr burns of The Making of Five Leaves Left cdrs (3!)! And I really like Mickys Tune (new)
Amen. I wrote this on Facebook two weeks ago: My wife and I went to a Thursday morning SF Symphony open rehearsal for Mahler's 6th. Normally at these sessions the conductor barely acknowledges the audience, but this time - with a hundred union musicians on stage in peril of going into overtime - Tilson Thomas turned around and gave the audience a generous talk about the material in the 6th symphony, even leading the audience in a singalong of "The Happy Wanderer"! It was an astonishing experience.
Being a caring, competent teacher should be a job requirement for all conductors. All the more so for those who are music directors. Bravo, Bernstein and Tilson Thomas!
Thomas is a favorite. The conductor of The Pittsburgh Symphony, Werner Honeck is always personable and always audience attentive. I love going to hear the symphony. And I want me a jacket like seemingly all conductors wear anymore.

A Facebook friend who is quite attractive, had a picture with him shortly before he died. In his bad toupee and mugging an over the top leering look at her it laugh out loud funny
I only learned not so long ago that there is a vocal contingent of people who despise Christgau. Me, I loved his terse, arch, and feintly dismissive reviews in the VVoice. And i bought his compendium of 70s reviews when it came out around 1980. Very fun read.
Likewise - I mostly read him for entertainment value. I also find him useful when I want to explore an artist I'm unfamiliar with, to choose a starting point.
I also didn’t necessarily agree with his verdicts, but they always made me think why. As a wordy bastardized who needs an editor in life to get me to cut to the chase, I was a big admirer. Same with my feeling for The Mad Peck reviews
