My dad and I had fallen out a couple of years before his passing. One of the reasons was him being an absolute D to my youngest (3 yrs younger than his brother) in the argument that lead to it.
A bit like me, they lost their grandpa around then. His death still stung, but in a different way since he wasn't the cool guy they were used to anymore.
