There were many and my brain is rather fried. But I can tell you we had one guy I referred to as "Guitar Chooch." Plumber by trade. Drove down from Sparta, NJ. Always would wave a wad of cash in one's face. Choose a Gibson Les Paul, Plug into a Marshall stack (100 watts), crank it. Never tuned. Absolutely awful. Other customers would even complain. Would buy something then shortly return it. Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am

Attending a Tyshawn Sorey trio performance at Dartmouth April 19. Only able to attend one of the 2 separated $ sets.
Joined by longtime collaborators Aaron Diehl on the piano and Harish Raghavan on bass.

coelacanth∅: many artists can be exhausting if one's not where he/she's at at that moment. the most exhausted i've ever gotten by a particular artist was Peter Brötzmann. when i discovered him i was infatuated, bought 4(?) albums right away. after a few months i started being somewhat repulsed by most of his playing! it was exhausting me.
i could see it happening with others, if i didn't lay off a bit...David S Ware, Sunny Murray, even Cecil . . . Avatar 🪉 Swag For Life Member 11:10am

I know what you mean-I saw him as drummer for a Fred Hirsch Trio at the Village Vanguard a while back, i felt he drowned out Hirsch most of the time (my seat on his side of the venue didn't help...)   11:13am
Erik dwells VT: @Jeff & Dave & Fred: Thanks for the input/suggestions/responses. I have been lucky 🍀 enough to have caught Mr Sorey many years ago when he was starting to make his initial moves at a small quality basement space at Burlington VT discovery jazz-fest. It was both very free & “practiced free”. Sorey stretched some boundaries by departing his 🥁 drum-set & taking the cover off a resting piano 🎹 in the corner & playing it & its insides like a percussion instrument. Audience mostly thrilled 😄.
Piano maintenance … not so much 😉.   11:16am
DJ Peter: you may not have meant it this way, for me it suggests: am I able to lock in or do I need the pacing to vary to keep me locked in.
In some cases I find records hard to lock into but live it's more enveloping and not a problem.

as Gregory said earlier (about Miles at Plugged Nickel), I like to set aside an evening every year or so to turn out the lights, lie down between the speakers, and put on Ornette's FREE JAZZ

Erik dwells VT: @ to ALL ye listeners who enjoy & relish a new deep toned & rooted delicious singer/voice on the scene: Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso (24 years young!) is a Mexican jazz singer that utterly thrilled us at a local show. She’s been touring & is soon recording her 2nd album in NYC (1st was w/ drummer 🥁 extraordinaire Antonio Sanchez, etc & produced by Matt Pierson?).
