Americans understand that Memorial Day, or "Decoration Day," as my parents called it, has something to do with honoring the nation's war dead. It is also a day devoted to picnics, road races, commencements, and double-headers. But where did it begin, who created it, and why?

This Karen Dalton song has brought tears to my eyes so many times, in a good way. It’s so raw and intense. I saw the documentary, and Nick Cave said the first time he heard it, he pulled his car over and sobbed on the side of the road. He hoped to one day write a song as good as that one.

I went back through and listened to their whole catalog last week, I sort of missed them the first time around. People talk about Gala being the definitive album, but I might prefer Spooky.
Primarily demo and destruction though most folks call it construction. To be honest putting houses back together sucks, I really enjoy the tearing apart skillfully aspect better. It’s cool seeing how other people assembled a mass of parts to come to a conclusion, especially antique homes. I’ve worked on some pretty old homes going back as far as early 1700’s. How about you?

Americans understand that Memorial Day, or "Decoration Day," as my parents called it, has something to do with honoring the nation's war dead. It is also a day devoted to picnics, road races, commencements, and double-headers. But where did it begin, who created it, and why?

Primarily demo and destruction though most folks call it construction. To be honest putting houses back together sucks, I really enjoy the tearing apart skillfully aspect better.
