Train between Portland and Boston is a nice ride. Buses are on a more frequent schedule, but train is less confining, scenery a good change from the turnpike and interstate. AND, I 'm now at the magic age that makes such things ch-ch-cheapahhh!
Maybe Richard Pryor got some costume ideas from Venus and Mars. On one TV show he appeared in some demon-like rock star costume with scary makeup, platform shoes, with a fake machine gun firing. ("With my green metal suit I'm preparing to shoot up the city." right?)
Funny that first reaction was "still fairly fresh..?" And then realize, yeah, not very long. But the solo and Wings tracks that came along between breakup and mid 70s, and the info and opinions and discussion of the times, make those few years seem like a longer stretch, especially cuz I wuz young when that history was rolling by my ears and attention.
ah, but it was also on "steppenwolf gold", and "16 greatest hits". i got "gold" at a young age, then 16 greatest when it came out because i had ruined the first track on each side of the gold album: born to be wild and magic carpet ride. -only to be disappointed that 'carpet ride was mercilessly hacked into a smaller chunk.
i didn't get 'birthday party 'till years later, used. it's the one i'm least familiar with.
I wish there was more video of the post-Gene Clark quartet.

I was the resident Orb fan at the record store I worked at. Picked up a lot of swag and promotional items. I still have a promo 12 inch from the live album
And seen these guys, the original bunch in the 70s, and the reconstituted version a few years ago (sans Richard Lloyd). Also heard a cool live cover by Luna just yesterday (bootleg live recording)>
Such as Lennon & McCartney's 1968 appearance, when Joe Garagiola and Tallulah Bankhead guest-hosted.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, LARRY!
When I saw them at Solid Sounds 2017, they had professional musicians playing behind them-it was impressive, pro musicians have trouble deliberately playing that badly, but they recreated the original album. Have to say, it was campy and torture at the same time.
That's true of other music scenes. The "Love Is the Song We Sing: San Francisco Nuggets 1965–1970" box set's book has a Ben Fong-Torres essay entitled “The San Francisco Sound (actually there wasn’t one…)”
i was about to say i'm somewhat familiar with pearls before swine; then i saw i had clickystarred this song on this very program, 8 years ago!
(- just never thought he sounded like Chapin before)
This song is referenced in David Ives' two-actor play "Venus in Fur" (the "s" was deliberately omitted). I saw an excellent production at the George Street Playhouse in 2013. Much more entertaining than Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's boring 1870 novella.
You remind me that I think I have a local production of the show, with friends in it, on my dormant tower computer, after compiling the video of a few different plays, very simply shot by a few different people. Should watch.
Always really enjoy this. And recalls the Picnic movie scene, with Holden and Novak, neither of them good at dancing in real life, mesmerizing each other in dance.

↳ Song: "Venus In Furs" by "Velvet Underground"
This song is referenced in David Ives' two-actor play "Venus in Fur" (the "s" was deliberately omitted). I saw an excellent production at the George Street Playhouse in 2013. Much more entertaining than Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's boring 1870 novella.Funky16Corners:

The late Joe Harvard gave hilarious commentary on this song in his 33 1/3 book about this classic album.bloomsbury.com...

You remind me that I think I have a local production of the show, with friends in it, on my dormant tower computer, after compiling the video of a few different plays, very simply shot by a few different people. Should watch.WLSClark:

Always really enjoy this. And recalls the Picnic movie scene, with Holden and Novak, neither of them good at dancing in real life, mesmerizing each other in dance.Funky16Corners:
