↳ Listener Gregory @6:13

He did, but tuba was a coloration in the horn section, didn't actually lay down bass. Stewart sometimes holds down the bass (and solos), other times it's Swallow, sometimes both I believe. Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
doctorjazz:

↳ Listener Gregory @6:11

I think Schneider and Bley had in common that they didn't think of themselves as soloists (they played the band), so if they play, it's "arranger piano", and they hire a pianist who's more of a soloist. Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 6:15pm

BenZWPB: I know a hi-lite of the show is when I announce my weekly thrift store finds. I struck out hard at the thrift stores but went to a new store in Delray Beach yesterday, JakesRecords. Small store but well curated. Lots of Japanese press. I didn’t want to spend much so picked up a reasonable priced Japanese press Zoots Sims and Al Cohn, and then hit the bargain bins and got a “Sweets, Lios & Lots of Jazz record - original 1941 recordings of Monk, Basie, Eldridge etc for $3.95 then a Betty Carter also a Jon Handy each under $5. ↳ Song: "52nd Street Theme" by "Clifford Brown"

That's the live album I have, didn't realize so much more live Brownie was out there.
Nice to hear George Coleman with Miles-he WAS in a tough spot, between Trane and Shorter, I like his playing as well (seen him a few times). Brown had a lot more "edge" to his playing live than the studio recordings would have you think.
Thanks DJ Peter!
