I'm glad you're enjoying them. I'll def be doing more in the future. As we speak I'm sitting here remembering like six other versions of this song that I have
There are apparently a ton by easy listening/rip off groups from the 70s, and a couple of more recent covers by Foo Fighters and Heart (which I haven't heard). The one I'm going to play is contemporaneous with Wings
Linda caught a lot of shit for being, let's say "off beat." I saw the doc too....it was interesting. I got to see a side of Linda that I found to be most enjoyable and funny
Melvin Sparks on guitar, Leon Spencer on the organ, Idris Muhammad on drums....

Whoa! Completely lost track of time. Been online tracking down various covers done live by the Replacements over the years. Have about two CDs worth now. What a glorious mess!

Jay Current:
It's kind of odd to hear Sly Stone covers. A lot of his material feels very uniquely Sly, you know?
4:04pm
Moog1 Radio:
It was commonplace to have very similar versions of songs charting in the top 40 at the same time. I still don’t know which is considered the original version of I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing
I think it was Susan Shirley under a different title, 'True Love and Apple Pie'
4:08pm
Moog1 Radio:
In the Chicago radio market one station WCFL played the Chicory version of Son Of My Father and WLS played the original Moroder version
In the '40s and '50s, Cash Box Magazine used to rank songs rather than individual singles, so you'd get a song and then every artist with a notable cover of that song would be listed below. There are times where well over a dozen covers of a single track are on the market at once.
I think "I Don't Know How to Love Him" may have been the last time two versions of the same track occupied the Top 40 in the same week. Helen Reddy's cover hit the singles market first and proved to be a hit, which led to Decca releasing the Yvonne Elliman original as a single.
4:18pm
Moog1 Radio:
It has vocals.
No credits as usual for Hocto
I was recently reviewing a Billboard Hot 100 chart from April 1974. Both versions of Billy Don’t Be a Hero are there. The Paper Lace version never cracks the top 40
I'll bet there are country covers in the playlist.
4:23pm
Moog1 Radio:
I think the spoken word song The Americans had two versions that both charted high. There was a third version that stayed low on the charts

Erica: Nowadays covers still exist but not as frequent anymore, and it's mostly covers of older songs as opposed to covers of current hits.
