My office introduced and passed ordinances regulations Ratio Utility Billing Systems (RUBS) which landlords have started using to bundle utility costs and pass them onto tenants. Now in Jersey City the hidden formulas landlords use need to be transparent and explicit, no more keeping renters’ utility bills in the dark!

I heard some great stories from old-time New Jersey pols at a wake several years ago. One said he would lay in a big supply of cheesecakes, which he would then give to people in exchange for their absentee ballots. He pointed at his brother: "And Sammy had the most amazing ability to bring people back from the dead at every election!" Another said a Jewish guy ran in a heavily Irish ward, claiming his mother was Irish. When pressed at a campaign meeting for his mother's name, he blurted out "Abramowitz!"
And then there was the Republican who hired a helicopter to fly over a Democratic rally at treetop level, sending all the paper flying into the air and those in attendance running for their safety
