My aquarium cabinet started making a buzzing noise recently. It has to be absolutely quiet in the room to hear it but I can usually make it out. If I open the door to the cabinet it stops. So I tightened all the screws attaching the door to the body of the cabinet and that helped a bit, but I think I can still hear it when there’s no other sound (ie in the middle of the night). Not sure what if anything to do next, but I read that those kind of sounds stress out the fish.

our downstairs neighbors' bathroom fan does that and we hear it through our bathroom heating vent (shared vents, once upon a time it was one house) and it is loud enough to cause my 4 year old to cover her ears.

@Jerseymoon I don’t think it’s the filter as it barely makes any noise at all, but I can test it by turning it off and see if that causes the hum to disappear. The key thing that puzzles me is that the hum disappears when I open the cabinet door.
