This was a Portland Band, and I knew a few of the members. I think I had them on my show 20 years ago, but a recording of that one might not have survived into the modern age.
For years I knew this song from bands that would cover it, most notoriously, Uncle Tupelo. (A 90's alt-country band.) I didn't realize how old this song was, until many years later.

Song:
"Weary Blues From Waitin'" by "Hank Williams"
I used to date a girl who was a country musician in Eugene, and we would listen to Hank Williams and talk about everything. She was great. Of course I fucked that up.
I picked up following Hockey and Baseball seriously after my grandpa died. Those were his sports (though not his baseball team. He liked the Yankees and I can't stand them.) so like in a way it's like he is still here.

Song:
"Untitled Blues [New York, 1968]" by "Albert Ayler"
For me, when it comes to Jazz, Albert Ayler is really among the best. I could listen to his kind of jazz all the time. I feel like he's onto something.
That does sound fun. There was a sort of indie / punk "Organic" wresting company in Portland for a while, "Portland Organic Wrestling," that would put on shows in punk clubs and stuff like that, and it was more theater and weirdos, than it was actual wrestling. But they had storylines, and they would "stage" matches. That was pretty fun.

I engineered a number of Live Performances by Levator, where Sky would use looping pedals to create walls of sound, and then sing over them. Sort of like this... but a one-person version. (I think there were four people in this band?)

One trick that I have learned about recording bands: ask them to set up the way they do in their practice space, and have them play at least one full song, all the way through, before you start trying to mix them. They need to be comfortable, and they need to warm up, before they really get going.

At last count, I'm sitting on over 600 live recordings, of bands that I had on various radio shows, over the years. I figured the best way to find a place for them was to start digging through, and finding the best ones, to play again. That was really the origin of The Afterparty.

Take a load off! Stay a spell.Austin Rich:
↳ Song: "Live!" by "Blue Light Curtain"
I wanted to re-master this recording, to bring out the vocals a little more. But it still sounds pretty good, for an almost 20 year old recording.Bandit:

The gal playing drums, if I recall correctly, had a solo project: Levator.soundcloud.com...

I engineered a number of Live Performances by Levator, where Sky would use looping pedals to create walls of sound, and then sing over them. Sort of like this... but a one-person version. (I think there were four people in this band?)Austin Rich:

Yeah, me too. They were a lot of fun to watch, too. They had a good stage show.das ubuibi: i am sooooo confused. Afterparty ??
Austin Rich: One trick that I have learned about recording bands: ask them to set up the way they do in their practice space, and have them play at least one full song, all the way through, before you start trying to mix them. They need to be comfortable, and they need to warm up, before they really get going.

Where was this recorded? The photo looks like a performance at a record shop.Austin Rich:

Sometimes I want to put on a long recording, so I call it the Afterparty, and that way I can fill the rest of Hour 3.Austin Rich:
↳ Olleh @11:42
It was recorded at KPSU, in Portland, OR. It's in the basement of the PSU campus. I have WAY too many photos of that place.Olleh:

Hi dAs. I’m new to this. The energy is great here.Bandit:
↳ Olleh @11:42
It reminds me of the shop "House of Guitars" which is an infamous guitar/record shop in Rochester NYAustin Rich:
↳ das ubuibi @11:42
I haven't done an official "Afterparty" in a while, so that might be why it's confusing.das ubuibi: hi olleh, i'm uB to this.
Austin Rich: They plugged their MySpace Page, and CDBaby, as ways to get their music, which perfectly dates this recording.
Bandit:
↳ das ubuibi @11:45
It's uB to meet you xDOlleh: Hi Bandit. It’s neat n blurry.
pxe: hi Bandit and Olleh
Austin Rich: At last count, I'm sitting on over 600 live recordings, of bands that I had on various radio shows, over the years. I figured the best way to find a place for them was to start digging through, and finding the best ones, to play again. That was really the origin of The Afterparty.
Olleh: Hi pxe Fancy meeting you all here

radio party tonightdas ubuibi:
↳ Austin Rich @11:46
best reason to record shows is to share shows !~Bandit:
↳ pxe @11:46
Hi Pxe!Austin Rich: I really liked that they had multiple synths, a drum machine, a live drummer, and LOTS OF REVERB ON EVERYTHING. That is pretty much the shortcut to getting me to love you.
Olleh:
↳ pxe @11:47
Yep, I’m just acting surprised and disembodied and all.Austin Rich:
↳ das ubuibi @11:48
Totally! And since I mostly have live radio recordings, it makes sense to play them on the radio!Olleh:
↳ Austin Rich @11:48
This a cool feature of the show! Man, 2007. Hah Myspace and CDBaby! I’m having fax machine flashbacks.Olleh:
↳ Austin Rich @11:48
Ditto. And I dig repetition repetitionAustin Rich: Here's the radio "entry" in my archives for the original broadcast, but if you follow the link, there's nothing there! Bit rot has caused this site to not be a good as it used to be...

Right? I was in college back then... man, those were the days.... 30-something college student... living the dream...Austin Rich: I recall that I had recently started dating a girl, and had seen her the night before. The entire day, I was thinking about her, as we were supposed to go out again that night. As I was mixing the bands this day, I was thinking about her.
She wasn't a great girlfriend, as it turned out. But I didn't know that then.
drowsy: this is perfect. good night everyone. Cheers Austin, thanks for sharing this recording.

I will try to play as much of this song as I can, before the end of the hour. But I have a feeling I'll have to fade it. You can hear the entire set at the link I posted, and again here:midvalleymutations.com...

↳ drowsy @11:55
Goodnight!pxe: thanks for the great tunes as always austin

Side interest. As a student, I could get a radio job, and also, be on the air / learn to record bands.I'm an English Major. Writing, Comics and Film Minor.
But I love radio.
das ubuibi: radio station live rooms can sound really great...or not
Bandit:
