I hope your mood gets better, Austin. I'll be listening while I get ready to call it a night. Thanks in advance for the entertainment this evening.
The movie feels like it's going to turn into a soft-core Cinemax film in some parts... and it downright silly in others. The tonal whiplash is too much!

We don't often play a lot of radio from the 30's, mostly people there's much less of it than the stuff I often play, from the late 40's / early 50's. (Of which there is a lot.)
And, unfortunately, they are also riddled with racism, sexism, and other strange story beats. I certainly don't like those aspects of these stories, even if I find the form of adventure serials very pleasing.

The movie serials and the comics were the "popular" Flash Gordon Media in the 30's. The radio show was not as popular, and I don't think it lasted as long. But the comics were VERY popular, and the movie serials were very well loved. (As I understand it.)

Well, I don't really know what it was like, since I couldn't stay up for it! So I can't say if it is "essential." But I have some Buck Rogers comics that I don't mind.

There ARE Star Wars Radio shows - that are very good - and contain story beats and scenes that are not in the movies. They were produced by NPR, and became VERY popular when they movies were not as easy to see in theaters. However, I felt that playing Star Wars stuff today was a little too on the nose...
