Good morning, JTP. Great listening this morning. This is one of those shows that I'm going to need to hit up on the archives bc I'm missing too many songs.
I was driving back from a trail race in NH - 6 hours in the rain and mud - and your show was the perfect company, along with my heated seat and steering wheel
Totally fired up, Sean. Thanks! I"m on video yelling at two students to break up a fight on Friday, after 3rd period. Was so disheartening to see so many students in the hall just standing there, filming, not calling for security or even shouting "Stop!" (Like I was ;-) .) Then after school on Friday, I escorted two seniors (at their request) onto the baseball field for Senior Night. That was lovely. The day came full circle. Onwards and upwards!!
Oh my gosh! You had a full day. So sad to know that capturing the violence for social media will be so much more rewarding than actually breaking up the fight.

Song:
"How Sad, How Lovely" by "Connie Converse"
I first heard Connie Converse on "Inner Ear Detour" and became obsessed. One of those FMU moments that's burned in your brain forever. I talked about her all the time until one of my students actually made a film about her. Totally worth your watch. www.youtube.com...

Yeah, the sea of arms up holding cameras, five deep in the hallway sucked the life out of me for a moment. But here we are; great tunes, lovely Mother's Day weekend, books & poetry & birdsong, flowers and shrubs. The cockeyed optimist lives!!!! ;-)

I gotta say that Jim the Poet has a great "radio voice". Whenever I hear him on WFMU he sounds so polished and professional that, for a moment, I think its not WFMU. :-)
Now he just needs work on his set list for the Wake and Bake glisteners.
Know your audience before making your setlist.

ROddy does have a lot of caricatures in his comedy books, but the Paddy Clarke book was real AF
I grew up down the road from where it is set and exactly when it was set. It's legit.
The Van and Snapper and all that are played for laughs.
I know. I have mixed visceral feelings. I guess i'm graduating. He said its all there in the archives. He gave it his all. His show feels like a part of me, more than many experiences in my life.

And thanks Jim for filling in and rocking with us this morning.
It had that quality of a stream of consciousness coming off the top of his head, but it was also so finely crafted that it always contained more than one idea at a time
I'm digging Jim's selections. His sets are fantastic. Life is full of surprises, gotta go with the flow, bend like the willow or snap like the mighty oak. ;-)
I was going to mention it to you, but you seemed to be having a bad day last Friday so I let it go ... and then just figured you knew. Sorry, man. It's a blow, that's for sure.

Hey Jim thanks for the great music! Yesterday & once in a while your station has a lot of static. Have you had issues w the antenna or transmitter?
Point well taken.
I suppose its a philosophical difference on what a "Guest DJ" is expected to do. Should they:
1. "follow the recipe" of the show they are filling in for? or
2. Sonically hijack the show they are filling-in for, and simply just do "their show"?
3. Both-- honor the spirit and tastes of the listeners of the show they are covering for, while ALSO sprinkling-in elements that make their own show unique.

Guest DJ's should burn the house to the ground, and then have a chili cook-off in the collective audience's brain. Unapologetic! Undaunted! Perplexing!
it really depends. i get the station in NEPA 90.1at home. in the car as i head south into NNJ i lose it to the classical music station. lots of factors, weather being one of them, elevation, line of sight to transmission towers

Point well taken.I suppose its a philosophical difference on what a "Guest DJ" is expected to do.
I opt for Option 3. But hey, that's just me.
