""The Ice Pick Murder"" by "Richard Diamond, Priva...
We have some pretty murky sound again this week on Richard Diamond. I've done my best to clean it up, and improve things as best I can, but you'll have to live with a little noise and some sanded off consonants.

Is that Elmer Fu... I mean, Walt Levinson?

I love the idea that you could just take your calls at a restaurant.

The radio stunt person budget is rolled into the Foley budget.

Austin Rich:
Diamond leaving his girlfriend with a wrestler at a restaurant while he goes to investigate something has got to be pretty low. Helen is gonna be putting him in a verbal hold over that for years to come.

Whoops! Looks like our signal broke for a moment. Sorry about that. Com-Crash delivering more excellent service, of course.

Turns out the wrestler / body builder "Seymour" knows a lot about anatomy, and is smarter than he looks. All the better for dating material!

Diamond apparently knows the smell of opium. I wonder what the backstory is there...

It was Jay Novello! I almost suggested that, but wasn't sure.

Webhamster Henry:
Oof I was distracted and didn't catch Bill Conrad!
🎸♥
9:30pm
Austin Rich:
We're getting a double dose of Jay Novello this week. That's pretty cool. Jay played the waiter at the restaurant, that Seymour and Helen were stuck at for most of the show.
🎸♥
9:33pm
Austin Rich:
The "second slot" in our line-up started out as the "Sailing Adventure" slot, where we ran two shows with sailing themes. When I ran out of sailing shows, I pivoted on the "international" sub-theme, instead of on the "sailing" theme. But I've been wondering what to do, to follow up Rocky Jordan, when I run out of those shows.
I have been thinking about running "The Lives of Harry Lime," after I run out of Rocky Jordan, but maybe there's other international / noir shows I should consider?

Once an episode, Sam has to tell Rocky that he needs to "back off."
Well currently with how my hand is (I fractured my pinkie at the begining of the month) I haven't been able to practice much. Been more reading on card tricks and coin tricks. Though im trying to learn a small et of tricks that I can do for a small routine.
Well most hypnotism is real but mostly psychological. The person being hypnotised has to be willing to let it happen otherwise it won't work. The brain is weird

This weird scam, about making the mom think her daughter is dead, and they would need to contact the daughter in the spirit world, is WILD.

asheville jon:
dope?

Austin Rich:
So the swami gave the girl a mickey? Yikes!
So, two of course stories this week had "dope" in a drink. Weird...
🎸♥
10:37pm
Bandit:
This episode does go into a scam a few magicians would pull on people. Most old school magicians at that time would make believe they has supernatural powers. Houdini was one for calling out fake mediums and spiritualists because he was mad at the guy he named himself after Robert Houdin
I suspect there were probably as many scam artists then as there are now. It's annoying that people want to jerks sometimes.
🎸♥
10:42pm
Bandit:
While yes magicians do say they proclaim they have supernatural powers, its mostly a suspension of disbelief. In learning magic I have found that research (tricks, performers or the past and present, etc) is just as important as learning new tricks.

Song:
""Frozen Lady"" by "Blackstone, The Magic Detective"
I do appreciate that Don is the dim one, and Rhoda is the smart one, on this show. If it were the other way around, I think it would be hard to listen to.
There is a part of this story that feels a little like the end of "The Restaurant At The End of The Universe," where there are settlers from another planet, and they don't believe Ford and Arthur, who try to help them out.
Hardly! Michael Rennie played some strange good guy version of Harry Lime.
A sidekick was invented and played by Jonathan Harris, before he became known as José Jiménez's boss on "The Bill Dana Show".
