Why thank you, and if it was not for the UK gov'ment I would make a fab return to your shores. Due to the continuous threat of violence (a recent run-that-*****-over attempt plus the possibility of the said blackout night had some outside influence regarding the results) I have decided to change my post code either by selling my flat or... simply abandoning my digs. I have had enough. I turned 50 last week and would like to age in peace.

I have to say that whenever any of you mention how old you are, I am always amazed. You're all extremely bloody well preserved, if I may say so :-)
But I *do* have officially pronounced myself "old". I don't run for buses any more, I make noises when I bend over to pick up stuff from the floor, I leak, I grow a little pot belly, I cannot name nor recognise anyone in the top 50.

Yes! Dinosaurs are the theme this summer! The theme is "Unearth A Story"- so I am going to expand upon that and include archeology also! Ancient Egypt, etc!
Laurie Anderson (this tuesday) and The Residents - the two concerts I fell asleep at and am ashamed of that. Lack of proper sleep is a murderous guest.

That person is old enough to remember life before the Great Depression, and would have been 18 the year Billboard Magazine published their first full record sales chart.
I was thinking kids born in the US in the 1890s had it horribly. Born into the 2nd worse economic depression in US history, eligible for WWI, adulthood in the Great Depression, and then their children would have been in WWII.
It's like the story of The Who going to Battersea Dogs Home to get a guard dog for their van and equipment, only to find the van had been stolen while they were in there!
unfamiliar with their achievements but the title track of Red (here cometh VOIVOD) and Toyah/Jubilee ('ffing scary) have made an impression - if I had to deliver a pizza to their postcode, I would try and be fast and polite

Hello to all those on this wonderous frigate!
Funny fact, my paternal grandma was a 1870 woman. Meaning she was 46 years old when my father was born in 1916. Nowadays that would mean nothing but back then rather shameful (why?) or a miracle (well, healthcare was what it was). Hence my father 60 years old when was born in 1976

@Jay - a child born in Russia in the 1890s would have endured famine, the violence of the revolution, WW1, then civil war, Stalin's terror, collectivisation, another famine, WW2, gulags and then the cold war and deprivation.
Quite a life, eh?

My nan was a divorced woman in the 40s - considered VERY shameful, even tho it wasn't her fault. It was so bad, that she and her children were made to sit at the back at church so as not to taint the congregation. Put the entire family off religion for good, and I don't blame them.
Living in harsh climates and in times with less advanced medical knowledge, that is not surprising, actually.

I remember my grandmother being quite proud that her children had shoes. When she was a child, dhe and her sisters had one pair between them, which they kept by the front door.

Funny fact, my paternal grandma was a 1870 woman. Meaning she was 46 years old when my father was born in 1916. Nowadays that would mean nothing but back then rather shameful (why?) or a miracle (well, healthcare was what it was). Hence my father 60 years old when was born in 1976DJ WhimsyGirl:
