Brinley: The Fire were signed to Apple Publishing, but Decca was their label. 'Dad' came out as a single, was retracted at McCartney's insistence, and re-recorded and re-released under his supervision. By the time the second version came out, the (supposed) momentum on it was already gone.

Oh, wow. Interesting. I’m sure you’ e seen that film where Badfinger is doing Come & Get It and obviously resenting that they had to do one of Paul’s songs! Anyone else in the world would be overjoyed to get that get up. Of course, they have some amazing songwriters in the group who would like some royalties.

Brinley: The Fire have such an interesting story and career, though it's a lot of fits and starts that don't reflect sensibly on their records. There's a couple 45 tracks that have their manager singing with session musicians, I think Toothy Ruthie is one of them? The real band made an interesting concept album called The Magic Shoemaker in 1970...!

Domenico: Oh, there it is. Apple didn't have much time and everything was going wrong after about the first year. So they didn't get to put out Grapefruit or Delany & Bonnie and others they'd planned to. Trash only got two singles. And Mortimer didn't even come out.
