Oh yeah. He was not just on air

Endlessly promoted local talent and various charities. He had no family and the city was truly family 24/7. After he passed it came out that when listeners would call in and were going through a difficulty of some sort, and wanted to see a show coming to town he would buy them a ticket from his own pocket. Had an amazing memory for people he met. Originally a San Francisco area native, he can to Philly in a VW microbus he named Minerva. Was there an Academy Of Music in Philly? Not related as far as I know to the NYC venue. That is what I vaguely remember but of course I could be wrong.clarke:

Yep, Southern artists of the kind my Louisiana-born dad used to love are not typically thought of as Philly-friendly. But there was a great turnout of Philly black folks, so maybe it was transplanted Southerners in the crowd.clarke:

New Roads is a town built around this long lake - i never thought about this, but at one time it was probably part of the Miss River - very cool area with 'camps' about the lakePaulRobeson1926:

Van Winkle ;-): My earliest memories of gas prices...mid 60s...peering out the car window ...was 39¢ a gallon*
*In Canada our fuel ...when it was still sold/measured in gallons so our gas gallons were 160 ounces not the US-sized standard 128 ounces.
But 39¢ / 49¢ / 59¢ prices went on for ages...but wages were low as well.
