“One thing that did happen in the 60s,” he says, “was some music of an unusual and experimental nature did get recorded, did get released.” The executives of the day were “cigar-chomping old guys who looked at the product and said, ‘I don’t know. Who knows what it is? Record it, stick it out. If it sells, alright!’”
“We were better off with those guys,” says Zappa, “than we are with the hip, young executives,” making decisions about what people should hear. The hippies are more conservative than the conservative “old guys” ever were."

It even pushes towards the 5 minute mark. They must have had faith in Karen Beth.
I was chatting with an old friend about Angine de Poitrine and what influences we heard --- King Crimson, Zappa, Beefheart --- and Bowie for the puppet-like costumes.
It's wild stuff -- a duo from Quebec that uses crazy time signatures, looping of microtone guitar and bass while dressed in abstract. puppet costumes. Worth a watch on Youtube for the spectacle, but chops are incredible. I've never seen such wizard-level looping techniques where one guy with a double necked guitar (microtone frets on each) can keep building and building the sound until it's a huge band.

This past week I was at SAVERS thrift and bought some late 60s and early 70s electronic record albums played on the Moog. I had not heard of them but thought for $2.00 each, it might be interesting to listen to them.
I'm guessing these days they're online. My only memorable Goodwill pick was about 40 years ago when I found an original UK Zombies Odessey and Oracle and a mono Kaleidoscope Beacon From Mars on the same day.
oh yeah, i've only had 1 bad encounter on discogs and the seller was extremely apologetic about the whole ordeal
(bought an orignal bitches brew, it had super bad groovewear that made it skip but wasn't visible unless you took a REALLY good look at it, but they let me ship it back and refunded me for it)
A couple years back I found a pristine Adrian and The Sunsets lp in a bin of overpriced records. Everything was priced at either $24.99 or $34.99. Adrian was $24.99
former was raw power by strange, latter was ghetto: misfortune's wealth by the 24 karat black

I bought the DAVE CLARK 5 GLAD ALL OVER lp with no instruments on the cover for just $1 at a garage sale. I have seen copies for $75 at record conventions in Chicago.
I found a $10 copy in a record store in New Orleans a few years ago, but it was mono, and someone had cut out the band picture (I'm guessing) from the gatefold sleeve. I left it for the next fan.
Oh--you pack the vinyl outside the sleeve to avoid spine splits. It's a common problem with brand new vinyl, actually. The record slides around inside the sleeve until it busts through one or more of the seams.

↳ Richard Whig @10:34
with what specifically?Discotech Underground: Frank Zappa summed up the 60's perfectly..
Eargasm!: It even pushes towards the 5 minute mark. They must have had faith in Karen Beth.

It's wild stuff -- a duo from Quebec that uses crazy time signatures, looping of microtone guitar and bass while dressed in abstract. puppet costumes. Worth a watch on Youtube for the spectacle, but chops are incredible.
