Lots of other voices in the Bottom Line book. Check it out- you won’t be disappointed. I only went there three times - James Blood Ulmer , Buster Poindexter, and folkie Christine Lavin.
It IS impossible to keep up with Douglas-he's playing at the Village Vanguard the week starting Tuesday May 12; haven't' seen him in a while, maybe I'll schlep into NYC... vv.squadup.com...
Luckily got to The Bottom Line a bunch of times, always liked that place, sad it's gone...they booked all kinds of music there, jazz, folk, rock...Not too many places like that now-City Winery maybe...
That's a Morocco pic, if I remember correctly. I have a similar one on some member of the family's phone of a gorgeous sunset from an upstairs restaurant/music.venue in Esquerra, Morocco. Will download it one of these days...
yes. Morocco pic. I didn't take it. I was sitting on the wrong side of the bus to have unobstructed view. One of our group was phone camera ready and had the view and shared with us all.

This IS nice trumpet from Ornette-I generally stay away from Ornette's trumpet and violin playing, but he could actually play (trumpet and sax are not a common double-Benny Carter did it for the early part of his career).
I'm reminded of Mingus' assertion that Ornette would not be able to play a C-major scale on the sax, yet somehow sounds always like himself; which seems to be true whatever the instrument.

It's a difficult double, from what I've read. The Embouchure for trumpet and sax is very different, hard to switch between them. A few pull it off.
maybe Mingus was right but also maybe Ornette was messing with him. I mean I don't think Mingus could have written in the European tradition like Ornette's string quartets and wind quintet(s).
(Mingus of course had orchestral ambitions himself)
