Lamar Jackson took a slight jab at John Harbaugh.

Fans of the New York Giants may be ecstatic that John Harbuagh is the team’s head coach. But Lamar Jackson thinks his team is better off without him.

The two-time NFL MVP took a swipe at the first-year Giants coach calling the Baltimore Ravens‘ new administration “a breath of fresh air” after Harbaugh spent the past 18 years in Maryland.

Harbaugh, of course, was fired after the Ravens went 8-9 and missed the playoffs. He was hired to fill the Giants head-coach vacancy Jan. 17.

The Giants have only made the playoffs twice in the past 14 seasons. Harbaugh made the playoffs 12 times with the Ravens and, of course, guided them to the championship in the 2012 season.

The Ravens started minicamp with first-time head coach Jesse Minter, the former defensive coordinator of John’s brother Jim’s Los Angeles Chargers.

Instead of Todd Monken, who Harbaugh tried to hire with the Giants until he took the Cleveland Browns head coaching role, Baltimore has tasked Declan Doyle as Jackson’s offensive coordinator.

But according to Jackson, the change is for the better.

“New coach, new OC … everything is just new basically,” Jackson said to reporters. “I’d just say it’s a breath of fresh air because everything is just new. That’s all.”

Jackson’s slight of Harbaugh could be perceived as moving on, since he qualified his comments with the “because everything is just new.”

Still, it’s hard not to view Jackson’s words as anything other than a subtle jab at the former Ravens head coach and the now-former Ravens OC Monken.

But Giants fans would gladly trade Harbaugh’s track record for that which the team has had over the past decade, where they’ve had five coaches and won only one postseason game.

Lamar Jackson Isn’t the Only Ex-Ravens Player to Call Out John Harbaugh

Harbaugh is a Super Bowl-championship winning coach. He is just two seasons removed from coaching the AFC’s No. 1-seeded Ravens, where they lost to the Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

But some of his act has worn thin with former Ravens. Aside from Jackson, former Ravens safety Ed Reed also didn’t vibe with Harbaugh during their five seasons together, where Reed and Harbaugh won the Super Bowl.

It was only after the Ravens won the Super Bowl, in dramatic fashion over Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers, that Reed began to appreciate John.

Unfortunately for Reed, he moved on from Baltimore to finish his Hall of Fame career with the Houston Texans and New York Jets in 2013.

Despite Reed and Jackson’s push back, the on-field success for Harbaugh in the Charm City was undeniable though. Harbaugh explained the method to his madness and the relationship he had with players, which Giants fans hope they will see this year and the foreseeable future.

“You may not like me, and we may not be doing the things the way you think we should,” Harbaugh said. “But that’s not gonna change the way I feel about you. I love you.”
