The Washington Commanders are coming off a down year. After striking gold with their combination of hiring Dan Quinn as head coach and drafting QB Jayden Daniels in 2024, Washington went to the NFC Championship Game, taking down the conference’s No. 1 seed Lions in the process.

But the Commanders had a dismal follow-up season in 2025, winning just five games and missing the playoffs altogether. Injuries decimated Washington’s roster, including Daniels suffering multiple injuries, and the league’s oldest roster showed its signs of aging.

As such, the Commanders went about getting younger this offseason, especially on defense, and adding an infusion of talent. But roster depth is important too, and Washington just made a potentially important addition on that front.

The Washington Commanders Re-Sign Veteran Cornerback

On Monday, the Commanders announced they had re-signed veteran CB Antonio Hamilton Sr., per NBC Sports. A former undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State, Hamilton spent last season in Washington and totaled 18 tackles, two passes defensed, and a fumble recovery. He primarily played special teams, though he got some work on defense later in the season due to injuries depleting Washington’s depth in the secondary.

Hamilton previously spent time with the Falcons, Chiefs, Cardinals, Giants, and Raiders. For his career, he has 197 tackles, two interceptions, 27 passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries.

Once again, Hamilton projects as depth at cornerback for the Commanders. Washington projects to start Trey Amos, Mike Sainristil, and either Ahkello Witherspoon or Amik Robertson at cornerback. They also have Darius Rush and Trey Hawkins III as depth guys who will fight for a roster spot alongside Hamilton.

The Commanders’ Draft Class is One of the Best in the NFL

Washington only had six picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. But they made the most of the resources they had, knocking their class out of the park with smart picks, attacking value without reaching for need.

That started at No. 7 overall, where the Commanders selected Ohio State LB Sonny Styles, who projects to be their starting middle linebacker immediately. He provides a huge injection of athleticism and playmaking speed to the middle of Washington’s defense, and he fell just a bit based on the needs of the teams at the top of the draft. But make no mistake: Washington got a stud in Styles.

Clemson WR Antonio Williams and Tennessee ED Joshua Josephs were two other picks I absolutely loved in the third and fifth rounds, respectively. Williams is an excellent complement to Terry McLaurin and adds some speed and after-the-catch ability to Washington’s wide receiving corps.

Meanwhile, I had Josephs ranked as the No. 8 overall player on my board. I love his combination of length, athleticism, and speed, and despite his leaner frame he plays with a ton of power and control. The Commanders run a 3-4 defense and Josephs could not be a more perfect fit in that scheme, as he’ll get to tee off on the quarterback from the edge on every snap.
