“We got games to win… I’m ready to go.”
Anthony Volpe discusses his return to the majors and his time in Triple-A alongside Oswaldo Cabrera.

The New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 at Camden Yards on Tuesday night, snapping a four-game losing streak that had seen the offense go quiet and the bullpen let leads slip away.
A five-run third inning was the turning point. Will Warren delivered another strong start. New York finally had a result to build on.
But the night also came with another development.
Anthony Volpe was back in the majors.
Volpe was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Jose Caballero landed on the injured list with a right middle finger injury.
It was not the cleanest path back. Volpe did not force the Yankees’ hand with a dominant stretch in the minors. He returned because Caballero got hurt and the Yankees needed coverage at shortstop.
Volpe understood that part. He also made his focus crystal clear on his return to the majors.
“We got games to win,” Volpe said. “I’m ready to go.”

Caballero made his own position clear after landing on the injured list.
“10 days. That’s the max I’m taking,” Caballero said.
Aaron Boone has publicly supported Caballero as the Yankees’ starting shortstop, and that matters. Volpe is back in the building, but he is not walking back into the exact role he once held.
Still, baseball has a way of changing quickly. Caballero’s injury opened the door. Volpe now gets another chance to show the Yankees what he can still be.
It may not be permanent. It may not be clean. But it is an opportunity.
And for Volpe, that has to be enough right now.

The Yankees broke things open in the third inning, with Trent Grisham delivering a three-run shot that pushed the lead to 6-0.
Warren handled the rest.
He was efficient across 5 2/3 innings, keeping Baltimore off the board until the sixth and navigating a bases-loaded situation in the third that could have unravelled the lead. For a team that had spent four days searching for a cleaner game, this one mattered.
The Yankees stopped the bleeding. The offense finally gave the pitching staff breathing room. Gerrit Cole’s return from the injured list is getting closer, and Ryan Weathers and Warren have both made the rotation conversation genuinely complicated in recent weeks.

The Yankees have games to win, and Volpe said he is ready to help them do it. After everything that has happened, that is the only answer that really matters.
The opportunity is here.
Now he has to use it.
