‘Park Her Forever’: NASCAR Fans Erupt Over Watkins Glen Black Flag

Natalie Decker looks on from her car during a NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series session earlier this season. Fans erupted online after Decker was black-flagged for minimum speed during Friday’s ARCA race at Watkins Glen.

Natalie Decker became one of the biggest talking points of the NASCAR weekend at Watkins Glen after being black-flagged during Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race for failing to meet minimum speed.

The incident quickly exploded across social media, where fans fiercely debated whether NASCAR made the right call — and whether slower underfunded teams should even be allowed on track at one of the fastest road courses in stock car racing.

FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass posted during the race:

“Natalie Decker black-flagged for not meeting minimum speed. Team gets one chance to make adjustments for her to go back out and meet minimum speed.”

The post quickly generated thousands of reactions, with NASCAR fans sharply divided over both Decker and the rule itself.

Natalie Decker Black-Flagged During Watkins Glen Truck Race

Watkins Glen International is one of the most technically demanding tracks on the NASCAR schedule, featuring high-speed braking zones, sweeping corners, and significant speed differences throughout the field.

Minimum speed rules are enforced for safety reasons, particularly at road courses where slower cars can become hazards in fast sections of the track.

Under NASCAR competition procedures, teams are generally allowed one opportunity to make adjustments after being black-flagged for minimum speed before officials can remove the car from competition.

The situation immediately became a major storyline online because Decker is one of the most recognizable names in the garage and remains one of the few female drivers competing regularly in NASCAR-sanctioned national touring events.

NASCAR Fans Erupt Over Natalie Decker Situation

Many fans defended NASCAR’s decision and argued the sanctioning body had no choice.

One fan wrote:

“She’s way off pace and should not be on track.”

Another posted:

“Minimum speed rules exist for a reason.”

Others went much further, with some commenters calling for NASCAR to permanently sideline slower entries altogether.

One viral comment read:

“Park her forever.”

But a large portion of the backlash centered less on Decker herself and more on the economics of lower-tier NASCAR racing.

Several fans argued smaller teams simply do not have the same resources, engineering support, or funding as powerhouse organizations.

Others pointed out that Watkins Glen tends to expose weaker equipment more dramatically than oval tracks because of the heavy braking and technical corners.

One fan defended Decker by writing:

“Most of the NASCAR rides are having a nightmare.”

Another added:

“She has improved enough chances and has shown herself to be just under around and calm. But she keeps getting into race altering situations.”

The debate continued throughout Friday evening as NASCAR fans argued over whether the issue was driver talent, equipment limitations, or the widening competitive gap inside NASCAR’s development series.

Natalie Decker Remains One of NASCAR’s Most Discussed Drivers

Decker has long been one of the sport’s most polarizing and heavily discussed drivers online.

The Wisconsin native has competed across ARCA, Trucks, and O’Reilly competition during her racing career and continues drawing major fan engagement whenever she is involved in on-track incidents or controversial moments.

Friday’s Watkins Glen situation once again showed how quickly conversations surrounding Decker can dominate NASCAR social media — especially when safety, competition standards, and funding disparities all collide in the same moment.
