Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland called out Kevin Patullo for not calling the right plays during the 2025 NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles fanbase voiced a lot of frustration over the offensive play-calling under former coordinator Kevin Patullo during the 2025 NFL season. As it turns out, fans weren’t the only ones annoyed from Patullo’s play-calling.

Ex-Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland voiced his frustration over the team’s 2025 play-calling while appearing on The New Heights podcast last week.

“I think any time things don’t go well — and I don’t want to sound like I’m on an interview, but it’s the truth — it’s execution,” said Stoutland to Jason and Travis Kelce. “It’s execution. It’s calling the right play at the right time, and not running bad plays into bad defenses.

“I mean, it ain’t that hard. That’s pretty much it.”

Stoutland never mentioned Patullo by name during the podcast. But the implications of his opinion were rather clear.

Only Patullo called plays for the Eagles offense last season. During 2025, Philadelphia’s offense finished 19th in points scored and 24th in yards. The Eagles were ranked in the top 10 in both categories the three previous seasons (2022-24) before Patullo began calling plays.

In January, Philadelphia relieved Patullo from his offensive coordinator role.

Eagles Offense Struggled Under OC Kevin Patullo

Things went sideways early in the 2025 season with Patullo as offensive coordinator.

The team began its Super Bowl title defense 4-0 with the offense scoring more than 30 points in two of those games. However, the offense also had at least 220 yards in just two of those contests.

To start October, the Eagles lost two straight. From that point forward, it felt like the team’s offense was out of sync and not firing on all cylinders as it did in 2024.

Part of why was A.J. Brown and his chemistry, or lack thereof, with quarterback Jalen Hurts. Saquon Barkley also couldn’t repeat his 2,000-yard season.

The offensive line depth with injuries too, especially in the second half of 2025.

Based on his comments to the Kelce brothers, though, Stoutland appears to place a lot of last year’s struggles on the team’s offensive play-calling.

Patullo served as an offensive coordinator for the first time last season. The Eagles offense only finished in the top 10 in one major category — giveaways.

Patullo held a variety of roles under Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni for eight seasons from 2018-25. In Philadelphia, Patullo was the pass-game coordinator from 2021-24 before gaining the OC role.

Eagles Replaced Patullo, Jeff Stoutland for 2026 NFL Season

While Patullo lost his job, Stoutland left the Eagles on his own accord this offseason. The offensive line coach announced his departure after 13 seasons on social media.

Stoutland didn’t leave, though, without some controversy.

“With the offense stagnant, head coach Nick Sirianni took on a more active role over the latter part of the season. He and then-offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo began incorporating different run designs in an effort to kick start the operation,” wrote ESPN’s Tim McManus on February 4.

“Stoutland was not consulted about the changes to what he felt was an appropriate degree, a league source said, to the point where he no longer desired the title of run game coordinator because he felt it no longer fit his job description.”

With that in mind, it’s not super surprising the offensive line coach had some negative things to say about the team’s 2025 play-calling.

The Eagles hired Sean Mannion as their next offensive coordinator. McManus reported the team offered Stoutland a role on Mannion’s first staff, but the veteran coach declined.

Philadelphia hired Chris Kuper to replace Stoutland as offensive line coach.
