The Toronto Blue Jays are perhaps the most injured team in Major League Baseball right now, especially on the pitching side of things. On Monday, they begin a three-game set with the Boston Red Sox. To the surprise of a lot of MLB fans, the Red Sox and Blue Jays are sitting at the bottom of the AL East standings.

Also on Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays announced some notable Max Scherzer injury news.

Per a Blue Jays team announcement ahead of the Red Sox series, Max Scherzer is heading to the 15-day Injured List with forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. A double whammy for Scherzer, who has been battling his fair share of injuries in recent seasons.

Max Scherzer, now 41-years-old, was contemplating whether or not he wanted to continue playing baseball this season, but he decided to re-sign with the Blue Jays late in the free agency cycle on a one-year, $3 million contract.

He’s pitched 18.2 innings this season, and has a bWAR of -0.8 and an ERA of 9.64. He was limited to 85 innings with the Blue Jays in 2025, but also struggled with an earned run average north of 5.00.

One of this generation’s best starters, and a sure-fire Hall of Famer, it’s tough to see a once dominant starter start to be whittled down due to age and injury.
