His play through the first three games of the series has been sensational, as he is showing that he is an elite talent who is going to be a star in this league for many years to come. If the Flyers make a deep run in this year’s playoffs, you can expect Martone to be among the team’s top point leaders.
“He seems always to be in the right areas. And it takes a smart hockey player to have that. He’s been huge for us. The puck finds him. Making a lot of the right plays. Special young player, and it’s been great to play alongside him,” teammate Christian Dvorak said of Martone (via NHL.com).
The Flyers have been one of the pleasant surprises of the playoffs thus far. They entered this series against the Penguins as the road team, but they stole home-ice advantage from their cross-state rivals by winning the first two games of the series due to Martone’s two game-winning goals. The Flyers then cruised to a victory in the third game of the series, and now they only need to win one of the remaining four games to make it through to the second round of the playoffs.
