A former Philadelphia 76ers guard will suddenly become a free agent once again after spending some time playing overseas.
Jeff Dowtin Jr. joined Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv for the 2025-2026 run in the EuroLeague and the Israeli league. He was initially signed through 2027. However, it was announced that Dowtin is cutting ties with the team early.
via Maccabi Tel Aviv BC: “Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club and Jeff Dowtin have agreed to terminate the guard’s contract with the Yellows. Thank you Jeff and good luck in the next step.”

During the 2025-2026 season, Dowtin averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game overseas.

It’s unclear what’s next for Dowtin. With the 2025-2026 NBA season winding down, the veteran guard could be looking for an opportunity to get back into the NBA.
After playing college ball at Rhode Island from 2016 to 2020, Dowtin went undrafted in 2020. He started in the NBA G League before picking up his first two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors.
Dowtin had NBA runs with the Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, and the Sixers.
The run with the 76ers was by far Dowtin’s most impressive body of work. He saw the court for 12 games during the 2023-2024 season. In the following year, Dowtin appeared in 41 games, which marked a career high.
Seeing the court for 15.1 minutes per game, Dowtin shot 48.7% from the field and knocked down 40.0% of his threes, putting up 7.0 points per game. He also came down with 1.5 rebounds per game and produced 1.9 assists per game.
After having a lack of interest during the 2025 free agency period, Dowtin joined a handful of NBA players in going to Maccabi Tel Aviv. One of his teammates, Lonnie Walker, also spent time with the 76ers last year.
With Dowtin breaking out of his overseas contract, he is a name to keep an eye on this summer as a potential under-the-radar signing in the NBA.
