Stephanie White is the head coach of the Indiana Fever.

The Indiana Fever made some bold moves in the offseason in hopes of replicating their success last year. They brought key players back and signed several veterans, building around Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.

The Fever entered training camp with 16 players, including three rookies and three players on training camp deals.

Ahead of the Fever’s season opener on May 9 against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the team announced roster cuts on Wednesday.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Fever revealed that three players didn’t make the final roster.

Megan McConnell, Jessica Timmons and Kayana Traylor were all waived and would be looking for new teams ahead of the new season.

McConnell is the sister of Indiana Pacers guard TJ McConnell. She was signed as a training camp invitee and went scoreless in three preseason games. She did register a total of six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Timmons was the third-round pick by the Fever in this year’s draft out of Alabama. She averaged 5.3 points in three games, shooting 5-for-14 in total.

Traylor, on the other hand, was also a training camp invitee. She averaged 7.3 points, though she was prone to turnovers.

The Fever have a total of 13 players on their roster. 12 of those players are on standard contracts, completing the final roster ahead of the first game of the campaign.

Rookie Justine Pissott is signed to one of the two player developmental contracts available, so one more player could get added.

Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie White Feeling Thankful

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s practice, coach Stephanie White reflected on the growth of the WNBA.

“I’m so thankful that this league is where we are right now,” White said. “To still be a part of it, and to see these things come to fruition, these players deserve it. They have been a part of a tidal wave of changing the landscape of the game, and I’m just thankful that they are living in this moment and I’m thankful that I’m still part of it.”

White then shifted her focus on the task at hand, which is making it to the WNBA Finals. The Fever was one win away from returning to the WNBA Finals last year despite not having a healthy roster.

They pushed the eventual WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces to the absolute limit, taking them to overtime of Game 5 of the WNBA semifinals. They did all of it despite the absence of multiple key players, like Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham.

Kelsey Mitchell was so exhausted that her body shut down in the fourth quarter and was taken to the hospital. Aliyah Boston fouled out late in the game, but the Fever still forced overtime before the Aces pulled off the win.
