Alabama QB Ty Simpson was selected by the Rams in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams selected Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simspon with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
This selection sent shockwaves across the league. The Rams are a perceived Super Bowl contender in 2026 and could have and maybe should have used their pick to help bolster the starting lineup for the upcoming season instead of securing a backup to reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford.
Nevertheless, Rams GM Les Snead landed on the former Crimson Tide standout to be the potential future face of the franchise.
Ahead of the draft, Rams legendary quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner shared some very interesting thoughts on the Alabama gunslinger that now carry more weight with Simpson headed to Los Angeles.
When a Hall of Fame quarterback speaks, people listen, and that’s exactly what’s happening after Warner offered his thoughts on Simpson in a clip that’s now gaining traction on social media.
In the video shared via X, Warner breaks down what stands out about Simpson’s game, and one particular point is catching a lot of attention.
Warner noted that Simpson was “forced to play the position more like an NFL quarterback than… anybody else in this class.”
That’s a significant statement coming from a quarterback who understands the position more than most.
Warner did not stop there with his praise of Simpson either. He went on to make the bold statement that “if we can get a more consistent Ty Simspon, he could be the best quarterback that comes out of this class”.
The former Rams star pointed out that Simpson had somewhat of an up-and-down season for the Tide in 2025, but in the good moments, he showed he has what it takes to play at an elite level in the NFL.
Following the conclusion of the first round on Thursday night, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban joined Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter to discuss the Rams’ selection of his former quarterback.
Saban called this “a perfect situation for him to get into. … I think it’s going to work out perfectly for him.”
Saban brings up an excellent point about Simpson being able to sit behind Stafford to learn and develop before being thrown to the wolves in the National Football League.
Ty certainly has the tools and the talent to succeed at the next level. It will be interesting to follow his development in Los Angeles.
