The Miami Hurricanes aren’t wasting time recruiting for the future — or even waiting for players to get to high school — by extending an offer to 8th grader Adrian Peterson Jr., the son of legendary NFL running back and 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player Adrian Peterson.

“Peterson Jr. is just 14 years old and hasn’t yet begun high school,” Sports Illustrated’s Will Ragatz wrote on May 8. “He’s in the 2030 recruiting class and is set to begin his freshman year at Ridge Point High School in the Houston (TX) area this fall … Currently listed at 6’1″ and 175 pounds, Peterson Jr. plays wide receiver, running back, and defensive back. He also plays baseball and runs track, according to his X/Twitter bio. He announced an offer from Minnesota on Friday and has previously announced offers from Miami, Baylor, UTSA, and Missouri State.”

Peterson Jr., 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, is listed on 247Sports as a running back/wide receiver/defensive back.

“Adrian Peterson‘s 14-year-old son, Adrian Peterson Jr., has gone viral for his insane highlight mixtape,” NFL influencer Dov Kleiman wrote on their official X account. “Some of the fastest running you’ll ever see for a kid his age. Jr. is in the class of 2030 and already a STAR.”

Legendary College Career for Adrian Peterson

While we should all be on the lookout for Nepo Baby preferred treatment throughout all of sports, any hype around Adrian Peterson Jr. should be taken seriously, and for good reason.

While memories may have faded somewhat over the last 20 years, it’s worth pointing out that the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Peterson is widely considered not only the greatest running back recruit of all time but also routinely pointed to as 1 of the few players in football history who could have made the leap directly from high school football to the NFL.

Peterson rushed for 2,960 yards and 32 touchdowns while averaging 11.7 yards per carry as a senior at Palestine (Texas) High School in 2003 and was not only a consensus 5-star recruit but was also named U.S. Army National Player of the Year.

As a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, Peterson underlined the straight-to-the-NFL argument by rushing for 1,925 yards and 15 touchdowns while setting an NCAA record for freshmen with 11 100-yard rushing games.

He also became the 1st Oklahoma freshman to earn 1st team All-American honors and finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up to USC quarterback Matt Leinart.

In the NFL, Adrian Peterson was just as dominant. He was a 7-time NFL All-Pro and 7-time Pro Bowler who led the NFL in rushing 3 times and was selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft by the Vikings, Peterson also holds the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards in a 2007 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Peterson, 41 years old, played for the Vikings until 2016 before closing out his career in stints with the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks. He last played in the NFL in 2021 and finished his career No. 5 on the NFL’s career rushing list with 14,918 rushing yards and 121 touchdowns.
