The Atlanta Braves, and everyone involved within the organization, are going to be mourning for the next couple of days after the announcement was made on Saturday afternoon that legendary manager Bobby Cox had passed away. Cox led the Braves to a 1995 World Series victory in what was a stretch of 14 straight division titles.

Bobby Cox died at age 84, and the Braves issued a statement that revealed the devastating news:

“We are overcome with emotion on the passing of Bobby Cox, our treasured skipper. Bobby was the best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform. He led our team to 14 straight division titles, five National League pennants, and the unforgettable World Series title in 1995. His Braves managerial legacy will never be matched.”

There have been many reactions across Braves Country on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday morning, and one very notable one was Chipper Jones, who was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Braves, and spent his entire career with Atlanta (under Bobby Cox’s management).

Chipper Jones Sends Message Regarding Bobby Cox’s Death

Before early Sunday morning, it had been nearly four months since Braves franchise legend Chipper Jones had made an X post.

However, after Bobby Cox’s passing, Chipper Jones sent a very heartfelt message about the sad news.

Here’s what Chipper Jones had to say:

“Haven’t posted on social in quite some time but can’t stay quiet in this time of loss. I’m struggling to tell all what Bobby Cox meant to me and so many others in Braves Country. He was the leader of men and a second father to so many Atlanta Braves thru the yrs. I’m so sad today, but as I sit here watching my two youngest boys play in their championship games on the day he passed, I can’t help but shout the same things he did from the corner of the dugout. ‘Come on kid, u got this!’ We are gonna miss him so much, but his legacy is forever cemented with the success of this franchise for the last 35+ yrs. He started it as GM, continued as manager, and passing the torch to others, the Atlanta Braves will continue to be force that Bobby Cox always wanted us to be. We love you Skipper. You were our rock. I love you more than words can express. My boys won both of their games…..Bobby had a hand, I have no doubt!”

Bobby Cox Leaves Lasting Impact on Braves Franchise

Considering the reactions across the MLB landscape today when the news broke that Bobby Cox is no longer with us, it’s clear his lasting impact on not only the Braves but also baseball as a whole is very apparent.

He still leads all MLB managers in ejections and reigns as one of the best player-managers to ever live.

Baseball players will have so many coaches/managers over the course of their career, but the impact Bobby Cox has left on Braves Country proves that he’s one of the best ever to manage.

Chipper Jones’ message is evidence of the sentiment that Cox impacted all the players he managed in such a positive way. Even players who hadn’t played under Cox for as long as Chipper Jones chimed in to send their deepest condolences.

Jones broke into MLB in 1993, but didn’t get full playing time until 1995… when the Braves won the World Series. He played 19 seasons in MLB, all with the Braves, and retired in 2012. Bobby Cox managed the Braves for pretty much Chipper Jones’ entire tenure with Atlanta (Bobby Cox retired in 2010).
