Deion Sanders made his feelings clear on Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken.

Todd Monken has a Hall of Fame fan in Deion Sanders, who is also the father of his potential starting quarterback.

Coach Prime joined “The Barbershop” to discuss the Browns and Shedeur. While he shared some criticisms, Deion Sanders sounds elated that Monken has taken over for Kevin Stefanski. The Browns fired Stefanski following a 5-12 campaign.

“I love it, man, because [Monken is] a straight shooter,” Deion said. “He keeps it a buck.”

Deion Sanders said he plans to go to Cleveland to speak with Monken directly.

“I want to meet him because I think it’s vital that as a coach, not the dad, I can tell him a few things about [Shedeur], how to get him going,” Sanders said. “That wasn’t asked of me a year ago. I don’t understand it. Even a guy like Travis Hunter being drafted to Jacksonville and I’ve had him for the last three [years], don’t you think you would want to talk to me to ask me what gets him going and what backs him off? You would want to know that.

“So, I anticipate, and I can’t wait to have that conversation with Coach Monken.”

Deion Sanders: Shedeur Went Through ‘Hell’ as Rookie

Last year was turbulent for Shedeur Sanders. Once viewed as a potential top quarterback in his draft class and widely projected as a first-round pick, Sanders endured one of the most stunning slides in recent NFL memory, falling all the way to the fifth round. The Browns traded up to select him at No. 144 overall.

Deion Sanders said the chatter that led to his son tumbling in the draft was unfounded.

“It was some ignorant things came out about him predraft and all that, and that was a lie,” Deion Sanders said. “Like, he would never go into a meeting with headphones on. He would never go into a meeting unprepared. Like, that’s just not who he is. There’s no way he could accomplish the things he accomplished without being prepared.”

Sanders opened the season buried on the depth chart, watching from the sidelines as the Browns cycled through answers at quarterback while the offense struggled to find consistency.

But injuries, uneven play and the Browns’ continued instability under center eventually created an opening. Sanders eventually got his shot late, starting the final seven games of the season. The results were mixed. He went 3-4 while throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. But he showed enough flashes of playmaking ability, toughness and command to keep himself firmly in the conversation heading into next season.

“When he takes off his shirt, I see the scars on his back that he’s been through hell, but he’s made it through hell,” Deion said

Shedeur Sanders Feels ‘Bulletproof’ After Rookie Year

Sanders first year in the NFL didn’t go as he had envisioned. But looking back, Sanders used the word “thankful” repeatedly to describe the experience.

“I’m thankful that everything happened how it happened,” Sanders said. “I think I’m just thankful overall. I don’t look at anything as a negative. When you start looking at things as a negative and that’s when you grow spite and hatred, you know, and nothing positive comes out of that. I was in a position to where I can handle everything that comes my way. So now I feel bulletproof.”

Sanders still has a battle in front of him. He’s trying to hold off Deshaun Watson as he competes for the starting job. Watson is rumored to be the frontrunner, although there’s a long way to go as the Browns sort out the position.
