For the Chicago Bears, Ben Johnson Ryan Poles are getting some backlash for the moves they did and didn't make.

The Chicago Bears may not be done making moves just yet.

According to a recent post from MLFootball, the Bears are considered one of the favorites to land veteran free agent tight end David Njoku.

Polymarket is currently giving Chicago a reported 42% chance to sign the former Pro Bowler.

Njoku officially announced his departure from the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason after spending nine seasons with the organization.

“David paired with Caleb Williams & Colston Loveland & co. would be special,” MLFootball posted on X.

BREAKING: The Chicago #Bears are one of the FAVORITES to sign free agent tight end David Njoku.

There is a 42% chance that Njoku signs with Chicago, per Polymarket.

Njoku is 29 and a former Pro Bowler.

David paired with Caleb Williams & Colston Loveland & co. would be special.

At first glance, tight end may not seem like an immediate need for Chicago after Colston Loveland’s breakout in 2025.

Additionally, the team just used a premium draft pick on Sam Roush in the third round.

However, the idea of adding a proven veteran like Njoku could make a lot of sense for a Bears offense that appears focused on surrounding Caleb Williams with as many weapons as possible entering Year 3.

Njoku would instantly become one of the most experienced pass catchers on the roster. He could represent the final major splash of an aggressive offseason by Ryan Poles.

David Njoku Could Bring Bears Proven Production

Even with injuries impacting parts of his recent seasons, Njoku has remained one of the more productive tight ends in football over the last several years.

The 29-year-old posted a career-best season in 2023. He hauled in 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns while earning Pro Bowl honors. He followed that up with 64 catches and five touchdowns in just 11 games during the 2024 season before injuries limited him again in 2025.

Across his nine-year NFL career, Njoku has totaled 384 receptions, 4,062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns.

He has consistently been a matchup problem because of his athleticism, size and ability to create yards after the catch.

For a Bears offense expected to feature more motion, spacing and quick passing concepts under Johnson in Year 2, Njoku could thrive operating underneath alongside Loveland.

Bears Tight End Room Still Has Questions

While Loveland is clearly viewed as the future at the position, Chicago’s current tight end room still comes with uncertainty.

Cole Kmet’s name has quietly surfaced in trade speculation throughout the offseason, especially after the Bears invested heavily in new tight ends in the past two drafts.

Even if Kmet remains on the roster, adding another experienced weapon would give Chicago flexibility and much-needed depth for a long NFL season.

Relying heavily on multiple young tight ends right away can be risky for a team with playoff expectations.

Njoku has the experience and can also be a mentor towards Loveland and Roush in the tight end room.

Simply put, you can never have too many reliable pass catchers around a young quarterback. If Chicago truly wants to maximize Caleb Williams’ development in 2026, adding a veteran like Njoku could end up being one of the smartest late-offseason moves any contender makes.
