The​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ San Antonio Spurs have quickly turned into damage-control mode following Victor Wembanyama’s concussion update. They altered the whole flow of their playoff series on the same night. They also decided to slow things down, which is a clear indication that their main concern now is recovery and not going through the motions.

The latest report from Shams Charania was straightforward: “San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with a concussion and will have further testing on Wednesday.”

That matches the game-night concern after Wembanyama hit the floor hard and was ruled out. Under NBA concussion rules, he must complete a minimum 48-hour inactive period and then pass symptom-free benchmarks, neurological testing, and final clearance before he can return.

This​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ injury also revealed a major weak point in San Antonio’s set-up: Spurs lose their defensive backbone and their most straightforward game-changer when Wembanyama is off the court. Spurs don’t have the luxury of just waiting for his comeback; they have to strategize playing without him, even if that is a short-term scenario. This entails more precise offense, increased rebounding, and improved game-ending execution.

Friday’s Game 3 in Portland is the earliest realistic target, but only if Wembanyama clears every step of the protocol. The timeline is still fluid, and the Spurs will not rush him back just to chase one game.

How San Antonio lost Game 2

Spurs​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ had opportunities to score, but they were not able to convert. They even had a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but Portland came back with an 11-2 run and, during the last 3:37, San Antonio was kept scoreless without even a field goal.

Scoot Henderson was the top scorer for the Blazers with 31 points, Stephon Castle had 18 for the Spurs, and Devin Vassell contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds.
