Jaylen Brown has directly addressed claims that he wants out of Boston on Wednesday.

Boston Celtics’ star Jaylen Brown has finally aired his response to the continued verbal barrage made by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on his show First Take. 

In an X post, Brown challenged Stephen A. to retire from his media work after he had another scathing statement for the Celtics forward in First Take for the third consecutive episode in a row. 

“I’ll “be quiet” / stop streaming if you “be quiet” and retire let’s give the people what they want,” Brown wrote while reposting First Take’s clip of Stephen A. telling him to “keep quiet” after his Twitch stream reflection about the Celtics’ 2025-2026 NBA campaign. 

In Stephen A.’s monologue in First Take, he questioned why Brown declared this season to be his favorite year with the Celtics. 

“Jayson Tatum showed up on first take before he showed up on your damn show. How?,” he said. “The year that Jayson Tatum is down with an Achilles tear is your favorite year? The year Tatum had to sit out in Game 7 because of the injury is your favorite year? The year you lose 3-1 of all the stars in the history of the Celtics, you’re the only star to blow a 3-1 lead, that’s your favorite year?”

Since losing in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, Brown has been vocal about his reflections on the Celtics’ season on his streams. 

In one instance, Brown expressed that he wished the Celtics “trusted the style of play” he thought gave them success in the regular season during Round 1, a series that saw them lead 3-1 and ultimately blow it. 

Two days ago, Tracy McGrady, a friend of Brown, revealed that the Celtics star had grown “deeply frustrated” about the team. He did not cite any reason in his statements, which Celtics’ President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens debunked.

Jaylen Brown also debunked claims about his displeasure with the Celtics organization. According to Brown, in his stream, he would love to play for Boston for the next 10 years. 

“Me and Brad [Steven] have a great relationship. I love Boston,” he said. “If it was up to me I could play in Boston for the next 10 years.”

Brown was drafted in 2016, exactly 10 seasons ago, by the Celtics. He had grown into one of the best two-way forwards in the league, helping the Celtics win one title in 2024, where he was named Finals MVP. 

This year, Brown has been the Celtics’ top player, leading them to 56 wins while averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. 

He will be eligible for a two-year extension in July, which could formally determine his long-term place with the Celtics. 

Celtics Remain One of the Top Contenders In the East Next Season

As the Celtics lick their wounds after a disappointing season, the team is expected to remain one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference next season. 

Aside from Brown, the Celtics will see the return of a healthier Jayson Tatum, who only played in the latter quarter of the season after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. 

The team still has Derrick White and Payton Pritchard locked in for next season, along with other complementary players that fit well into Joe Mazulla’s shoot-happy system.
