Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Injury Situation Takes Positive Turn for Game 1 Vs Spurs

Anthony Edwards smiles as the Minnesota Timberwolves get timely boost ahead of Game 3 following the surprising Denver Nuggets injury report.

The Minnesota Timberwolves entered their second-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs shrouded in injury uncertainty.

Their franchise superstar, Anthony Edwards, hyperextended his left knee in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets, casting serious doubt over his availability.

But ahead of Game 1, the situation has taken a dramatic and encouraging turn.

Anthony Edwards Shows Up Big at Timberwolves Shootaround

GettyAnthony Edwards’ New injury update gives massive hope to the Timberwolves.

In what can only be described as a significant development, Edwards was not just present at Monday morning’s shootaround, he was an active and meaningful participant.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania:

“Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards was a significant participant in Timberwolves shootaround this morning and wants to return in Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN. Edwards is pushing to play, but he and the team’s medical staff will make a decision later today.”

Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards was a significant participant in Timberwolves shootaround this morning and wants to return in Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN. Edwards is pushing to play, but he and the team’s medical staff will make a decision later today.

That alone is a massive step forward. Just days ago, reports suggested Edwards would miss the first couple of games of the series entirely.

His upgrade to “Questionable” already signaled that he had every intention of suiting up.

What This Means for the Timberwolves’ Playoff Hopes

This‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ is certainly a good glimpse of hope for Minnesota from a very positive point of view. Edwards being marked as questionable instead of out is a clear sign that the medical personnel have a guarded hope that he can recover to some extent.

Besides, even if he is at only 70-80%, just his being there will have a drastic effect on how the defense is set, on the court spacing, and most of all on the morale of the entire team.

However, in my view, the Timberwolves will be wise to make a smart, well-thought-out decision and probably even not have Edwards play in Game 1 or, at the very least, limit his time on the court.

The medical staff wouldn’t be risking a major, long-lasting injury in the very first game of a series that can go up to seven games.

They will definitely want to see how the knee reacts to the intensity of the first game before they give their star the go-ahead. Holding off is the right move ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌here.

The Wembanyama Challenge Awaiting the Timberwolves

Victor Wembanyama

GettyVictor Wembanyama is an NBA superstar.

Even with or without Edwards, Minnesota faces perhaps the most daunting individual matchup in the entire playoffs: Victor Wembanyama.

He was also named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year, recording 13 blocks across just two games in the first round.

Without a fully healthy Edwards to attack the paint and draw Wembanyama into foul trouble, Minnesota’s offense becomes dangerously predictable. Wembanyama’s length disrupts driving lanes, alters mid-range attempts, and has the unique ability to guard multiple positions making him a nightmare to game-plan against.
