Even amid a contract dispute the Arizona Cardinals are still committed to Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback.
This offseason marked a major change for the Arizona Cardinals. Officially moving on from former first-overall pick Kyler Murray, the Cardinals are looking at a new era at the quarterback position. For the time being, it looks like that new era will be headlined by Jacoby Brissett.
Of course, Brissett was the starter for most of the season a year ago with the Cardinals, coming in to replace Murray. He just doesn’t seem like a long-term answer at the position. On top of that, he’s also not been attending the offseason program, amid a dispute over his contract.
Despite all of that, the Cardinals are still sticking by Brissett as their starting quarterback at this point in the season. Josh Weinfuss explained during a recent appearance on NFL Live.
“I’ve been told that, as of now, Jacoby Brissett is QB1, despite him holding out for a new contract,” Weinfuss said. “A source told me that he has been made aware of that, and that discussions between the team and Brissett are ongoing, just like Brissett’s holdout.”
Brissett took over for the Cardinals as their starting quarterback for the final 12 games of the season. Statistically, he was fine in that role. He threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns on the season. However, in those final 12 games, the Cardinals went just 1-11.

At this point, the Arizona Cardinals are not expecting Jacoby Brissett to be back before mandatory minicamp, which is currently scheduled for June 8th to June 10th. In the meantime, he’s trying to work out a new contract with the team.
2026 is the final year of Brissett’s deal with Arizona. He’s set to make $9.06 million, but only $1.5 million of that is guaranteed. So, it’s being reported that he wants more security. At the time, reporter Ian Rapoport noted that “AZ appears willing to address it.”
Along with Brissett, the Cardinals also have Gardner Minshew, Carson Beck, and Kedon Slovis on the roster. In what did not seem like a stable job for Brissett prior to this, an opportunity could be opening up for any of the team’s other quarterbacks.
Despite the Cardinals’ reported willingness to address Brissett’s contract yet. There also haven’t been any other indicators on the timeline he can expect to get that new deal in place.

By no means is third-round pick Carson Beck a sure thing at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. At the same time, he has plenty of college experience, and middle-round picks have succeeded as starters in the NFL before. So, the hope is that he can make noise early in his professional career.
“He’s a big, solid dude,” head coach Mike LaFleur said. “I mean, he’s 6-foot-4, he’s 235 pounds. He looks the part, right? That doesn’t mean that that’s the end all be all by any means. Natural thrower, he’s tough.
In his reporting on Jacoby Brissett, Josh Weinfuss added to that. He explained that a good camp would position Beck for some playing time, even if he isn’t QB1 as of right now.
“That leaves Minshew as QB2,” Weinfuss said. “And then the plan for a rookie, Carson Beck, who Arizona drafted in the third round is for him to sit, watch, and learn. Unless he outplays some of the quarterbacks during camp, and if that happened, there’s a chance he could see the field earlier rather than later.”
That doesn’t mean that Beck is going to be the Week 1 starter by any means. However, there is a world where Cardinals fans do see him take the field this season while Arizona figures out what it has long-term at quarterback.
