Jacob Misiorowski left his start against the Padres with a right quad cramp and should make his next start.
In his start against the San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski was in total control. The right-hander blanked the Padres for seven innings, then came out for the eighth.
During warmups, he motioned for trainers to come out. Head trainer Brad Epstein and manager Pat Murphy came out to the mound to check on Misiorowski’s right leg. It was the same leg that knocked him out of his May 1 start vs. Washington.
The body language between Misiorowski and Murphy before the former departed seemed to suggest not a serious injury.

After the game, Murphy revealed to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Misiorowski is dealing with right quad cramps. It marked the second time in three starts the right-hander had an early exit due to cramps.
Misiorowski’s injury provided an anticlimactic ending to an otherwise otherworldly start. The right-hander completed the seventh inning for the first time in his career, allowing just four hits and striking out 10 Padres on just 93 pitches.
The Brewers ace continued to light up the radar gun, firing another 40 pitches in excess of 100 MPH. Misiorowski has logged the most pitches north of 101 MPH in the pitch tracking era (since 2008), per MLB researcher Sarah Langs.
However, the game did not go the Brewers’ way. Aaron Ashby, who replaced Misiorowski in the eighth, fired a scoreless inning. Closer Abner Uribe couldn’t keep the shutout bid, surrendering a three-run home run to Gavin Sheets in a Milwaukee 3-1 loss.
The good news for the Brewers is this shouldn’t be an injury that affects Misiorowski’s next start. The right-hander’s turn will come up on May 18, when Milwaukee travels to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs for a critical intradivision series.
The Brewers trail the Cubs by 2.5 games in the National League Central after May 13, so it will be a chance to gain ground in the division. Having Misiorowski available for that series will be critical.
Despite exiting two of his last three starts early, Misiorowski isn’t too overly concerned about his cramping issues. It’s worth noting that a hamstring cramp took Misiorowski out of his May 1 start vs. the Washington Nationals, whereas this game his right quad cramped up.
“Nothing we haven’t seen before, so it’ll be fine,” the right-hander told Hunter Baumgart of Fox Sports 920 AM Milwaukee. Misiorowski is confident he’ll make his next start.
Even at 93 pitches, the Brewers ace successfully lobbied to come out for the eighth. Misiorowski said he felt like he was in a good spot and wanted to keep his start rolling. That’s when the cramping issue flared up on the right-hander and led to his exit.
“I threw that first warmup pitch and was walking backwards up the mound. I was walking up and I kind of felt it coming on and stood there for a second.”
The Brewers and the rest of the baseball can breathe easy, knowing the most electrifying pitcher in the world is still healthy.
