Mansoor Delane is a standout cornerback selected by the Kansas City Chiefs after they traded up to the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Mansoor Delane Was the Chiefs’ Top Target in the Draft

The Chiefs made an aggressive move to secure Delane, trading up from No. 9 to No. 6 in a deal with the Cleveland Browns. General manager Brett Veach said the decision had been in place for weeks.

“[I]t’s funny because, three, four weeks ago, when we were going through the ’30’ visits, I bumped Steve [Spagnuolo] and said in his post-draft press conference, ‘We’re going to bring our corner in,’” Veach said. “And he said, ‘Don’t bring him in. Just don’t bring him in. Let’s just Zoom him. Let’s keep it quiet.’”

Veach added, “This was our guy the whole time… when you’re right there, and you can get the No. 1 corner in the draft, you go get him.”

2. Mansoor Delane Built His Career at Virginia Tech and LSU

Delane spent three seasons at Virginia Tech before transferring to LSU for his final year. The move paid off, as he became one of the top defensive players in college football in 2025.

He earned unanimous All-American honors, becoming just the 14th player in LSU history to do so, according to The Athletic. Delane allowed no touchdowns and committed zero penalties during the 2025 season, showcasing consistency in both man and zone coverage.

3. Delane’s Playing Style Stood Out to Chiefs Coaches

At 6-foot-2 with strong speed, Delane impressed with both his athleticism and awareness on the field. He ran a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and showed the ability to play both inside and outside.

“He’s super fluid. He’s athletic,” Veach said. “He’s a guy that plays patient, is super aware, has great ball skills. He’s tough, he’ll tackle. We think he can play inside and outside.”

Veach added, “We feel like he was the most complete corner.”

4. Mansoor Delane Credits Confidence for His NFL Opportunity

Delane pointed to his playing style and mindset as reasons the Chiefs made the move to draft him.

“Really just the way I play the game and the confidence they have in me,” Delane said. “They weren’t really on me too much during this process but they said they just wanted to keep quiet and make that sneak move and they made the best move in the draft, so I’m excited.”

He also shared a message he would give his younger self: “Man, don’t stop now, don’t stop now… You got what you dreamed of. Let’s make a mark on this league.”

5. The Chiefs’ Rookie Cornerback Comes From a Close-Knit Family Background

Delane was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, as one of five siblings. He is a practicing Muslim, and his name means “He who is victorious” in Arabic.

His family has played a key role in his journey. His older brother Zayd served as his business manager during his time at LSU, while his younger brother Faheem also plays college football.

Delane began playing football at age 6 and developed through youth leagues before starring at Archbishop Spalding High School. He later credited those early experiences for helping shape his path to the NFL.
