Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks may have more company soon.

Passing on a quarterback early in the draft hasn’t shut the door on the Cleveland Browns adding one — regardless of the options already on their roster.

The Browns have had a strong draft through three rounds, addressing positions of need. Cleveland added offensive tackle Spencer Fano (No. 9) and wide receiver KC Concepcion (No. 24) in the first round. The team also drafted receiver Denzel Boston (No. 39), safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (No. 58), and offensive tackle Austin Barber (No. 86).

“I think we’re excited about the players that we’ve added. We’re certainly excited to see them on the grass because we haven’t seen them as a collective unit,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. “But we still have work to do on both sides of the ball and [Saturday] will be a big day for that.”

In all, four quarterbacks have come off the board. Fernando Mendoza went No. 1 overall and Ty Simpson — a quarterback frequently linked to the Browns — went in the first round to the Los Angeles Rams. Carson Beck and Drew Allar were both third-round picks.

Browns Take Firm Stance on Adding QB

The Browns have three quarterbacks on the roster in Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel. Cleveland has yet to name a starter and has called it an open competition.

Berry didn’t shy away from the idea of adding another quarterback to the mix. LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, Arkansas QB Taylen Green and Illinois passer Luke Altmyer are some of the more notable names on the board.

“We’ll always add talent at the most important position,” Berry said. “Doesn’t matter who’s in the room. If there’s a quarterback that we like that’s available to us at the right cost, we’ll add that player.

“The three guys have done a really nice job so far this spring. We’re lucky that we got three days on the grass. They are all learning the offense quickly, working through their mistakes, and throwing the ball well. But that wouldn’t prevent us from adding a player that we like tomorrow.”

The Browns proved that last year. They took Gabriel in the third round before selecting Sanders in the fifth.

Browns QBs Fresh Off Veteran Minicamp

Browns head coach Todd Monken echoed a similar sentiment to Berry on the quarterback position.

“We’ll see how it plays out. I don’t think there’s any position that is off the board that we wouldn’t take, even after taking two receivers,” Monken said. “We might end up taking the third. We might take another offensive lineman, or it could be a quarterback. I don’t think there’s any position that wouldn’t interest us.”

That said, Monken is fresh off seeing his three current quarterbacks on the field for the first time. He came away optimistic after their first time on the field together.

“I thought, all three quarterbacks, at times you could see the positives in their game and learning the new system, and they’ve been awesome in the meeting rooms and on the field, and it was just kind of dipping our toe in the water,” Monken said. “But I thought Deshaun looked really good at times, and there’s other things he’s got to work on. Same with Shedeur and with Dillion. So, I didn’t really do a deep dive into all of them, but it was a heck of a lot of fun being out there, I can tell you that.”

Whoever wins the starting job will have an upgraded supporting cast. That starts up front, where the Browns continue to retool their offensive line with Fano and others.
