Washington Commanders wide receiver Treylon Burks will have an opportunity to earn a significant role this season.

Most pundits don’t see the Washington Commanders wide receivers as good enough yet for quarterback Jayden Daniels. The team has faced significant cries to add to the position group, but the Commanders have yet to do so since drafting Antonio Williams in the third round. What that means, though, is veterans such as Treylon Burks will have an opportunity in 2026.

That opportunity will begin with the team’s offseason workouts starting on May 27.

Fansided’s Riggo’s Rag’s Dean Jones included Burks on a list of eight Commanders players who “can turn OTAs into a personal launchpad.”

Jones argued Burks will have the chance to squash any further receiver free agency or trade talk by earning a starting job this offseason.

“A conversation with new offensive coordinator David Blough persuaded [Burks] to stay, which indicates there could be a decent role for him to play if everything goes well this summer,” wrote Jones.

“Staying healthy is key. Burks needs a full offseason to hone his craft and build back confidence. Looking at the options behind Terry McLaurin in the receiver room, an opportunity is undoubtedly there for the taking.”

Burks posted 10 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown with the Commanders last season. He received 22 targets while playing only eight games.

What Could WR Treylon Burks Bring for Commanders

Burks signed with Washington as a flier. The Tennessee Titans selected the wideout at No. 18 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. But he never came close to meeting that draft hype, in large part because of injuries.

In fact, Burks was such a disappointment, he wasn’t on a roster to begin last season. The 26-year-old agreed to join the Commanders practice squad in October to continue his NFL career.

Burks missed one game in 2025 because of a finger injury. But he played in eight other contests, seven of which were after the Commanders signed him to their active roster.

The wideout largely remains a reclamation project. But as Jones noted, the Commanders appear to have confidence in Burks contributing this fall.

Burks’ best season with the Titans was his rookie year when he had 33 receptions, 444 receiving yards and a touchdown. The wideout, though, missed time because of turf toe.

Over the next two seasons, Burks sat out contests because of multiple different knee injuries. Burks posted 53 catches, 699 receiving yards and one score in 27 games with the Titans.

Commanders WR Depth Entering 2026 Offseason Workouts

Washington has foregone making a major receiver addition in the first several months of this offseason. Instead, the Commanders signed Dyami Brown, Van Jefferson and Nick Nash in NFL free agency.

Williams could start as a rookie opposite veteran Terry McLaurin. Burks, though, could be one of Washington’s outside receivers in 3-wide sets.

Ourlads.com listed Burks as Washington’s No. 2 receiver behind McLaurin. The website has Williams listed as a slot wideout.

In addition to Burks, offseason workouts could be key for Luke McCaffrey as well. The former third-round pick averaged 18.5 yards per catch last season but ended the campaign on injured reserve. That gave Burks his opportunity to join the active roster.

The Commanders also have receivers Jaylin Lane, Jacoby Jones, Chris Hilton Jr., Ja’Corey Brooks and Jaden Bradley on their offseason roster.

Washington would love for any of those wideouts emerging as a quality starter option this offseason. The team will begin its offseason workout program on May 27.
