Tyler Glasnow sets MLB record.

Tyler Glasnow set an MLB record on Wednesday before his exit due to an injury during the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros game.

Glasnow pitched just 1 inning, allowing 1 run while striking out 2. Yet, before being pulled due to a back injury, the Dodgers starter set an MLB record.

When Glasnow recorded his first strikeout of the game in the bottom of the first inning, he recorded his 1000th career strikeout. Not only did he reach the milestone, but he set an MLB record, according to MLB Stats.

“1,000 career strikeouts for Tyler Glasnow! At 793 IP, he’s the fastest SP of all time to reach 1,000 Ks (min. 50% of games as SP at time of milestone,” MLB Stats posted on X.

Glasnow, being the fastest starting pitcher to record 1000 strikeouts, is quite the accomplish, and puts him in an elite category for his career.

The Dodgers traded for Glasnow in December of 2023, and he’s helped the team win back-to-back World Series. However, throughout his career, the right-hander has been plagued by injuries.

Glasnow made his MLB debut in 2016 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and also spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to the Dodgers.

This season with the Dodgers, Glasnow is 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 7 starts. In his MLB career, he’s 46-36 with a 3.69 ERA and 1001 strikeouts in 174 games, including 135 starts.

Dodgers Fans React to Glasnow’s Record

Glasnow, setting an MLB record on Wednesday, came as a surprise to many.

Many Dodgers fans also believe Glasnow could have set this record years ago had he not dealt with so many injuries.

“Imagine if he didn’t have all the injuries …,” a fan wrote.

“The problem is he is always hurt when you need him,” a fan added.

“1,000 strikeouts for Tyler Glasnow faster than any starter in history. That’s generational stuff right there. Consistency at elite levels separates the great from the historical. 793 innings of dominance hits different when it’s a new record,” a fan wrote.

It’s quite the achievement for Glasnow, but unfortnately, he did leave his last start due to an injury.

“793 innings to 1000 strikeouts is historically fast.. when Glasnow is healthy he is genuinely one of the most electric pitchers alive and this milestone just put the rest of the league on notice,” a fan wrote.

“Glasnow hits 1K Strikeouts. Dodgers pitcher becomes fastest starter of all time to reach milestone,” a fan added.

“Tyler has to be respected,” a fan added.

Glasnow was named an All-Star in 2024.

Glasnow Doesn’t Expect Injury to be Serious

Although Glasnow set an MLB record on Wednesday, he did leave his start after just one inning due to an injury.

However, after the game, Glasnow said the accomplishment was cool, but he wished he hadn’t gotten hurt. Luckily, he doesn’t think it is a serious injury.

“It’s great. It’s a cool accomplishment,” Glasnow said. “It would have been better if I didn’t get taken out of the game (before) the second (inning) … but I’ll be able to look back on it and have a nice feeling about it.

“… It’s just like a normal spasm that kind of just gives out. I’ve gotten it since like high school, just being tall, I guess. I get it like a couple times a year. It was just a warm-up pitch and it gave out and I tried to throw another one and it just was too hard to bend over.”

Glasnow is in the third year of his five-year, $136.56 million deal with the Dodgers.
