Talladega Superspeedway already delivers unpredictability. This weekend, the weather may add another layer.

With NASCAR’s Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and ARCA Menards Series all scheduled for on-track activity, the forecast puts Saturday squarely under the microscope. Friday looks manageable, Sunday trends more favorable, but Saturday carries the highest risk of disruption.

Current conditions point to showers and possible thunderstorms on Saturday, with rain chances around 60% during the day. That matters because it’s the busiest day of the entire weekend.

Friday’s schedule includes ARCA Menards Series practice at 3:30 p.m. ET and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series qualifying at 5:30 p.m. ET. The forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 82 degrees and only a minimal chance of rain — making it the cleanest weather window teams will likely see.

Saturday Could Disrupt Talladega’s Busiest Day

Saturday is where the weekend could shift.

The day begins with NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by ARCA practice and qualifying, the ARCA Menards Series race at 12:30 p.m. ET and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Ag-Pro 300 at 4 p.m. ET.

With multiple critical sessions stacked into one day, even a passing storm could create delays that ripple across the entire schedule.

At a superspeedway like Talladega, drying the track takes significantly longer than at smaller venues due to the sheer size of the racing surface. That means even brief showers can force extended delays.

NASCAR does not race on wet oval tracks under normal conditions, making weather a major variable any time rain enters the forecast.

What Happens if Rain Delays a NASCAR Race?

If rain reaches the track, NASCAR officials immediately evaluate conditions and will stop on-track activity if the surface becomes unsafe.

Cars are brought to pit road, and track crews begin a coordinated drying process using Air Titans, jet dryers and track sweepers. Depending on rainfall and conditions like humidity, wind and cloud cover, this process can take anywhere from over an hour to several hours.

Teams and drivers wait while officials monitor the track, with no competitive adjustments allowed under red flag conditions.

If a race has already reached halfway or the conclusion of Stage 2, it can be declared official. If not, NASCAR will attempt to resume the event later, delay it or postpone it to another day if necessary.

Sunday Forecast Looks More Favorable for Jack Link’s 500

There is better news for Sunday.

The Jack Link’s 500 is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on FOX, and the forecast currently calls for intervals of clouds and sunshine with a high around 83 degrees. While patchy fog is possible early, rain chances are significantly lower than Saturday.

That gives Sunday a stronger chance of running without major interruption — though, at Talladega, conditions can always change quickly.

Between unpredictable pack racing and a weather forecast that could impact Saturday’s schedule, the Talladega weekend is already shaping up to be anything but routine.
